He has planned it this way. This supernatural creature
has power over the minds of all human beings. 2
Corinthians 4:4, “In whom the god of this world hath
blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light
of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God,
should shine unto them” (KJB).
Not only does he have the power to blind humans and
subliminally control them, but he toys with homo sapiens like
a cat playing with a mouse. Until they are saved, they never
really understand that they are being manipulated by the
most ferocious creature in this universe. He has power and
authority that is superseded only by God himself. Even then
Satan is so clever that most saved people consider him
more like a bogeyman who has been invented to scare
naughty little children into being good or someone the
preacher overemphasizes to whip his congregation into line
with the church program.
Part of the problem lies in the fact that no mortal eve
has ever seen Satan in his true character. Every time he has
appeared to mankind, he has been incognito disguised as an
angel of light. 2 Corinthians 11:14, “And no marvel: for Satan
himself is transformed into an angel of light” (KJB). If he
does not appear in this fashion, then he appears in some
form totally different from his true character. Our only
knowledge of what he is like can be found alone in the
written revelation of the Living Word of the Living God. Apart
from that disclosure, no one would suspect the horrid
grotesqueness of this supernatural creature who, if our
mortal eyes could see him, would make Godzilla of
Japanese folklore look like a french poodle by comparison.
This is all part of his master plan. By traveling in
fictitious disguises, he is able to carry out his universal
program and travel undetected and unnoticed by the world,
including the world of Christendom. His victims little realize
that he can take away their jobs, their homes, their children,
their loved ones, their health and their reputation. When he
is finished toying with his unsuspecting dupes, he can kill
them as easily as the cat destroys the mouse when it tires of
playing its little game. Hebrews 2:14 instructs us,
“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and
blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that
through death he might destroy him that had the power of
death, that is, the devil” (KJB).
All the while, his victims play, follow his game plan like
supercilious dunces, laughing and joking about this horrid
beast who is systematically destroying them. Unless they are
saved, they will never appreciate that they are pawns in the
Devil’s struggle against God until they awaken in the Lake
that burns with fire. Then the cruel joke will be ended forever.
Satan has allowed his deluded dupes to call him by an
endless list of names that indicate their contempt for the very
one who is controlling them. Please examine the following
names as given in, Webster’s Dictionary Of Synonyms
(Springfield. Mass., 1942). p.236:
Beelzebub, Mephistopheles, the Prince of Darkness, the Old Boy, the Old One, Old Harry,
Old Nick, Old Poker, Old Scatch, Old Split Foot, Old Clootie, Old Horny, Old Gentleman,
Gooseberry, Ahrimanes, Sammael, Zamiel, Diabolus, Duece and Dickens.
If Satan cannot disguise himself by getting man to
deny his existence, which really serves his purpose as well
as any, then he will encourage man to make sport of the
Devil by pretending he is a funny joke through giving him
cute names.
Another favorite trick of Satan is to get some
comedian who has artistic ability to draw funny cartoon
pictures to describe him as a clown dressed up in red
pajamas with horns, a forked tail and a pitchfork. Then the
poor comedian sits hack and laughs as a little child playing
with a boa-constrictor.
Satan has his favorite devices of disguise aided by
the intellectuals who have literally ability. The legends of
Faust or Faustus go back to the sixteenth century
according to the Encyclopedia Britannica, Encyclopedia
Britannica (London, 1959), Vol.9, pp.121-122:
He is first mentioned in a letter dated, Aug. 20, 1 505 Johann Cast (1572), believed
Faust to be in league with the devil.. . . Lastly there appeared about 1712, what was to
prove the most popular of all the Faust books: The League with the Devil established by
the world famous Archnecromancer and Wizard Dr. Faust by Christlich Meynended . . . .
To Christopher Marlowe belongs the honor of first seeing the great dramatic possibilities
of the Faust legend.
The Tragical History of D. Faustus as it hath bene (sic) acted by the Right Honourable the Earle of Nottingham, 1,604 . . . . The essential change which Goethe (1770)
introduced into the story is the nature and pact between Faust and Mephistopheles, and
the character of Mephistopheles himself The Mephistopheles of Marlow, as of the old
Faust books, for all his brave buffoonery is a melancholy devil, with a soul above the
unsavory Hell in which he is forced to pass a hopeless existence Goethe’s conception of
Mephistopheles is more subtle. Goethe’s Faust is confident that nothing “such a poor
devil” can offer him could give him the moment of supreme satisfaction he craves.
We are reminded that many of these legends of
Faust were written in one form or another by
clergymen. Obviously, the devil of Faust was not the Devil
we read about in the Book of Job It is with sadness we
note that even clergymen have no more concept of who
and what the Devil is like than the rest of the unsaved
world. Consider the foolish statement of a twentieth
century clergyman in his commentary on the Book of Job.
Charles Aked, The Divine Drama Of Job (Edinburgh,
1913), p.10:
Job is a work of imagination, a poem, a dramatic
poem, and it is no more fact than Paradise Lost,
Macbeth or Faust. It is poetry, it is philosophy;
most of all it is religion.
Job would have considered this poor excuse for a
Bible teacher far more than a “miserable comforter” if he
would try and compare the Devil that Job was tortured by
with the Mephistopheles of any person’s Faust.
The Devil of Job was the supernatural creature
who could cause tornadoes, kill your children and afflict
you with an illness that would make you curse the day you
were born. Job 3:2-3:
“And Job spake, and said, Let the day perish
wherein I was born, and the night in which it
was said, There is a man child conceived”
(KJB).
The Devil of Job was the one whom Michael the
archangel respected possibly out of fear of him. This
awesome truth is recorded in Jude I :9:
“Yet Michael the archangel, when
contending with the devil he disputed about
the body of Moses, durst not bring against
him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord
rebuke thee” (KJB).
The Devil of Job was the one with whom the
heavenly messenger of Daniel fought for twenty one
days. He finally needed the help of Michael to break
through the defenses as the angel passed through the
abode of the Devil. This is confirmed in Daniel 10:13:
“But the prince of the kingdom of Persia
withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo,
Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help
me; and I remained there with the kings of
Persia” (KJB).
It was the second person in the trinity of evil, the
Antichrist of whom Daniel was given a vision. When Daniel
saw him, not the Devil, but the Antichrist, Daniel fainted at
the sight and was sick for days afterward. Daniel 8:27,
“And I Daniel fainted, and was sick certain days: afterward
I rose up, and did the king’s business; and I was
astonished at the vision, but none understood it” (KJB).
Clearly, the Devil has blinded the minds of the unsaved
and most believers to the true picture of Satan, his plans
and purposes, together with his breathtaking power.
Lewis Sperry Chafer gives us a correct evaluation of
Satan and his fearsome powers, Chafer. loc. cit., Vol. 2. p.
84:
Imagination fails to follow these undertakings and can add nothing to
what is here set forth. The sum total of All the evil Satan will have
wrought is beyond estimation. With the same disclosure in view, it is
written, that when having secured permission of Jehovah concerning
Job, Satan displayed a fivefold power over creation in the exercise of his
evil purposes. He caused the raiding Sabeans to destroy Job’s oxen and
asses and to kill Job’s servants with the sword. He caused fire to
descend from heaven and burn up the sheep and the servants who
tended them. He caused the Chaldeans to rob Job of his camels and to
kill the servants. He cause the death of all of Job’s children by a wind
from the wilderness which crushed the home in which they were
assembled, He smote Job with the most grievous bodily suffering he
could impose.
In Job 1:6 we read, “Now there was a day when the
sons of God came to present themselves before the
LORD, and Satan came also among them” (KJB). A
conversation is recorded in verses seven and twelve
between God and Satan. Then we read in Job 1:12, “And
the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in
thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So
Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD” (KJB).
We read once more in Job 2:1, “Again there was a day
when the sons of God came to present themselves before
the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present
himself before the LORD” (KJB). Once more a
conversation is recorded where Satan asked permission
from God to do some wicked things and the permission is
granted. Then we read in Job 2:7, “So went Satan forth
from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore
boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown” (KJB).
We must ask ourselves, “Just who is this frightening,
powerful creature who has such freedom of movement to
come into the direct presence of God, get his request
granted to do a horrid wickedness, receive that permission
from God, leave and then carry out the wicked plot?” Who
is this one who is so mighty that we read in the Scriptures
that on one occasion, one member of the Trinity had to
call upon another member of the trinity to rebuke Satan?
In Zechariah 3:1-2 we read:
“And he shewed me Joshua the high
priest standing before the angel of the
LORD, and Satan standing at his right
hand to resist him. And the LORD said
unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, 0
Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen
Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a
brand plucked out of the fire?” (KJB).
If the reader has not been aware of this truth
before, we trust this brief introduction will cause our hearts
to understand a stirring truth. We are not dealing with a
clown in red pajamas with horns and a pitchfork, but rather
we are faced with one of God’s created beings who yet
retains such breathtaking powers that he can have a
direct audience with God, and obtain permission to carry
out his direct plans against earth creatures. If Daniel
fainted when he saw a vision of the Devil’s second in
command, the antichrist, who receives his power from
the Devil , what chance would any man have trying to
stand against this powerful creature who can hurl
tornadoes at his will, call fire down from heaven, and
destroy human life at his beckon? To get the answers, we
must first of all move out of the Book of Job and seek the
origin of this creature called Satan.
Ezekiel 28:14, gives us the beginning of the one
who is later called Satan. The verse informs us:
“Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth;
and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the
holy mountain of God; thou hart walked up
and down in the midst of the stones of fire”
(KJB).
The expression, “anointed cherub that covereth”
tells us of the power and distinction of this created
being. Clarence Larkin points out: Clarence Larkin, The
Spirit World(Glenside, Pa., 1922), p.10:
He was the guardian or protector of the
‘Throne of God’ being perfect in all his ways
from the day that he was created.
The context teaches us that he was “full of
wisdom” and perfection of beauty.” He was clothed in a
garment with rare gems all woven with gold. He dwelt in
Eden, the “garden of God. “Ezekiel 28:11 -19 9 relates the
facts:
“Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, take up a
lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD:
Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. Thou hast been
in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius,
topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the
emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy
pipes was pre pared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the
anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy
mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of
fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till
iniquity was found in thee. By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled
the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as
profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, 0 covering cherub,
from the midst of the stones of fire. Thine heart was lifted up because of thy
beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast
thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. Thou
hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of
thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, hit shall devour
thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that
behold thee. All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at
thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more” (KJB).
That this is a reference to Satan before his fall is
confirmed by Charles Feinberg who says, Charles
Feinberg, Prophecy of Ezekiel (Chicago, I 969), p. 1 63:
The anointed cherub was none other than
Satan himself in his position of honor about
the throne of God.
Hairy Ironside reaches the same conclusion by
declaring, H. A. Ironside, Ezekiel the Prophet (New York,
1949), p. 191:
Undoubtedly we have here the original
condition and fall of Satan himself . . . Men
often ask why God created the devil. The
answer is he never created the devil. he
created a pure spirit being of great wisdom
and glory, but this spirit dared to conspire
against the throne of God, and so the
greatest of all crested beings became the
arch enemy of God and man.
Isaiah 14:12-17 gives us the account of the fall of
this anointed cherub that covereth. He is called “Lucifer,
son of the morning.” Then follows the five “I wills” of this
Son of the Morning who rebels against God’s authority and
is thus judged by God.
Isaiah 14:12-17 “How art thou fallen from
heaven, 0 Lucifer, son of the morning! how
art thou cut down to the ground, which didst
weaken the nations! For thou hast said in
thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will
exalt my throne above the stars of God I will
sit also upon the mount of the congregation,
in the sides of the north: I will ascend above
the heights of the clouds; I will be like the
most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down
to hell, to the sides of the pit. They that see
thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and
consider thee, saying, Is this the man that
made the earth to tremble, that did shake
kingdoms; That made the world as a
wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof;
that opened not the house of his prisoners?”
(KJB).
Larkin presents to us a possible addendum to the
Scriptural account, Larkin, The Spirit World, pp. 11-12:
Some think that when this world was created and fit for habitation Satan was placed
in charge of it, and it was then, as Isaiah declares that Satan said in his heart -- ‘I
will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the “stars of God;’ I will sit also
upon the Mount of the Congregation, in the sides of the north. I will ascend above
the clouds; I will be like the Most High:’ that it was for this presumptuous act that the
‘Pre-Adam World’ became a chaos, and ‘without form and void.’ This would justify
the claim of Satan that this world belongs to him, and that he had the right and
power to transfer the ‘kingdoms of the world’ to Christ, if He would only
acknowledge Satan’s supremacy. And it accounts for the persistent war Satan is
waging against the Almighty to retain his possession of the earth.
C. I. Scofield confirms this passage as referring to
the fall of Satan with these remarks, Scofield, loc. cit., p.
726:
Lucifer, ‘day-star’ can be none other than
Satan. This tremendous passage marks the
beginning of sin in the universe.
Obviously, this action of Satan was treason
against the throne of God. In taking this stand against
his Creator, Lucifer fell from his exalted position and
became Satan, the adversary of God. When he tries to
justify himself by accusing God, he becomes the Devil. In
this way he is known as both Satan, the Adversary of God
and the Devil, the Accuser.
Although there is a superabundance of facts
concerning Satan revealed in the words of God, there
remain many mysteries concerning him that God has not
chosen to divulge. It is our part to dwell upon the known
and then await the answers to the unknown in that day
when God will disclose His secrets to those whom He
loves.
The Bible illustrates, for instance, that Satan is a
ruler over a kingdom of spiritual beings. These
creatures not only have great power in their own right. hut
somehow receive greater power from Satan. In Ephesians
6:12, God reminds us, “For we wrestle not against flesh
and blood, but against principalities, against powers
against the rulers of the darkness of this world,
against spiritual wickedness in high places” (KJB).
Immediately our minds inquire, “How did Satan assemble
this vast host of created, spirit beings over which he now
rules as a king?” A. S. Joppie gives this ranking of God’s
Heavenly Host, A. S. Joppie, The Ministry Of Angels
(Grand Rapids, 1953), pp. 41-45:
Michael, the Commander-in-Chief
(Daniel 10:13, “But the prince of the kingdom of
Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but,
lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help
me; and I remained there with the kings of
Persia.” (KJB); Jude 9, “Yet Michael the
archangel, when contending with the devil he
disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring
against him a railing accusation, but said, The
Lord rebuke thee.”; Revelation 12:7, “And there
was war in heaven: Michael and his angels
fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought
and his angels”); Gabriel, Heaven’s Telegram
Bearer (Daniel 8:16, “And I heard a man’s voice
between the banks of Ulai, which called, and
said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the
vision.”; 9:21, “Yea, whiles I was speaking in
prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen
in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly
swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening
oblation.”; Luke 1:19, “And the angel answering
said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the
presence of God; and am sent to speak unto
thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.” 16,
“And many of the children of Israel shall he turn
to the Lord their God.”); Palmoni, Heaven’s
Mathematician (Daniel 8:13, “Then I heard one
saint speaking, and another saint said unto that
certain saint which spake, How long shall be the
vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the
transgression of desolation, to give both the
sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?
“), from the Hebrew ‘Palmoni,’ the numberer of
secrets, or the keeper of God’s divine calendar;
The Cherubim or living creatures, (Genesis 3:24,
“So he drove out the man; and he placed at the
east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a
flaming sword which turned every way, to keep
the way of the tree of life.”; Ezekiel 10:5, “And the
sound of the cherubims’ wings was heard even to
the outer court, as the voice of the Almighty God
when he speaketh.”).; Seraphim (Isaiah 6:1-3, “In
the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord
sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his
train filled the temple. 2 Above it stood the
seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he
covered his face, and with twain he covered his
feet, and with twain he did fly. 3 And one cried
unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the
LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his
glory.” (KJB); Thrones (Those Who Rule);
Dominions; Principalities; Powers; and Angles.
Joppie continues with this comment concerning
Angels, Ibid., p.14:
Their number is so vast that no man can
comprehend the total. Their intelligence is akin
to that of God. Their great strength and power is
so great that one angel can slay 185,000 soldiers
in a night. They are creatures as deathless as
God Himself. There are fleets of them!
Squadrons of them! Millions of them! And they
are all on the side of those who love and obey
Jesus Christ.
In like manner as Lucifer fell and became Satan,
there was an innumerable company of angels that fell. In 2
Peter 2:4 we read, in the context of the days of Noah, “For
if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them
down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness,
to be reserved unto judgment” (KJB). Jude 1:6 refers to
the same event, “And the angels which kept not their first
estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in
everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of
the great day” (KJB).
It is important that we keep the Bible continuity of the
story by turning to Gen_06.html#2 and noting that these
angels who fell in Noah’s day were called “the sons of
God.” Notice, for example in Psalm 82:1, 6-7:
“God standeth in the congregation of the
mighty; he judgeth among the gods. I have
said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children
of the most High. But ye shall die like men,
and fall like one of the prices” (KJB).
Scofield made a glaring error when be said:
“Angels are spoken of in a sexless way.”
Scofield, loc. cit., p.13.
The truth is, every angel in the Bible is a male. With
no exception the author can find, every time an angel
made a visible appearance to humans, the angel
appeared in the body of a man. For example, The Lord
Jesus Christ and two angels made a visit to Abraham.
They all appeared as men. In Genesis 18:1-2 we note,
“And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre:
and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day; And he
lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by
him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the
tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground” (KJB)
While the Lord Jesus Christ, in the body of a man, visited
with Abraham, the two angels were dispatched to Sodom
to rescue Lot before God destroyed the five cities of the
plain with a fiery blast. Genesis 19:1 explains. “And there
came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the
gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet
them: arid he bowed him self with his face toward the
ground” (KJB). When the two angels came into Lot’s home
in Sodom, the homosexuals demanded of Lot, Genesis
19:5, “And they called unto Lot, arid said unto him, where
are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them
out unto us, that we may know them.”
Notice two points.
(1). The homosexuals in Sodom saw the two
angels as two men.
(2). Homosexuals will sexually attack anything or
anybody who is male, whether it be a male
animal, a little boy or a grown man. This is why
they are called “queers” or “perverts.” They were
not born that way, but acquired this horrid sexual
sin from some other perverted male. Their life
style is to seek out any male they can find, man
or beast, with whom they can have perverted sex.
This is not merely love of one man for another,
but as the word implies, (homo man sex), is to
practice their filthy sex deviation with another
male.
A comparison of the four resurrection accounts in
the four Gospels is most convincing. Compare these
four passages showing angels appearing as men:
Matthew 28: 2, “And, behold, there was a
great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord
descended from heaven, and came and
rolled back the stone from the door, and sat
upon it” (KJB).
Mark 16:5, “And entering into the sepulchre,
they saw a young man sitting on the right
side, clothed in a long white garment; and
they were affrighted” (KJB).
Luke 24:4, “And it came to pass, as they
were much perplexed thereabout, behold,
two men stood by them in shining garments”
(KJB).
John 20:12, “And seeth two angels in white
sitting, the one at the head, and the other at
the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain”
(KJB).
The comparison enables us to reach one conclusion.
Matthew sees one angel; Mark sees one man; Luke sees two men while John sees two angels. All four
Gospel writers are writing about the same event, Very
clearly, the two angels appeared as two men.
Scofield made another glaring error when he
taught that the “sons of God” in Genesis 6.4 were really
“the godly line of Seth. “Scofield, loc. cit., p. 13. Genesis 6:4 reads as follows,
“There were giants in the earth in those
days; and also after that, when the sons of
God came in unto the daughters of men, and
they bare children to them, the same
became mighty men which were of old, men
of renown” (KJB).
We are constrained to remember two points.
One, since the fall of Adam, there is no such
thing as a godly line of anyone. Every line
from Adam is an ungodly line.
In the second place, we know there is a
“Messianic” line, but that line was anything
but godly. (See Matthew I 1-1 5).
Another bothersome question arises, since when
did a “godly” line of men marrying an ungodly line of
women produce giants? This teaching is not
supported by the Scriptures.
The Bible teaches that these “Sons of God” were
angelic beings who fell. They left their first estate and
came to earth as men. They retained their supernatural
powers, however, and thus became the “gods” of the
entire human race. By forfeiting their position as “sons of
God” through rebellion, they in turn became the “gods” of
the ancient and modern worlds. Psalm 82:6 points out this
truth, “I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children
of the most High” (KJB). Paul and Barnabas healed a man
at Lystra with their God given powers of Apostles. The
people of Lystra declare in Acts 14:11, “And when the
people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their
voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are
come down to us in the likeness of men” (KJB). This has
been the testimony of the unsaved world since the time of
the flood, whether in Babylon, Egypt, Greece, Rome or the
United States.
These “gods” in the form of men had sex relations
with human women, a genetically inexplicable
phenomenon, but, nevertheless, a discernible fact. These
descendants proved to be giants. They were some kind
of monstrosities that could reproduce after their own kind
making it necessary for God to destroy these superhuman,
but abnormal creatures, with a universal flood.
It is highly unlikely that God would destroy the
world because some saved people married unsaved
people. No such action of God is even hinted at in the
Bible. It is very plausible and consistent with the Scriptures
for God to destroy a world populated by monsters of
nightmare proportions. Action by God for such a world
wide catastrophe must be judged by a universal cataclysm
such as Noah’s flood.
If we add to this the sin of bestiality, not only
would the world be populated by these anomalies
among subhuman or perhaps superhuman society,
but we would have giant sloths, giant tigers, giant
sharks, giant buffaloes, and genetic monstrosities
such as weasel-dogs, cat-bears, deer-goats, giant
spiders, eagle-men, pans, centaurs and satyrs.
Leviticus 20:15-16 warns us, “And if a man lie with a
beast, he shalt surely be put to death: and ye shall slay
the beast. And if a woman approach unto any beast, and
lie down thereto, thou shalt kill the woman, and the beast:
they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon
them” (KJB). Please see paragraph two on page eight
concerning homosexuality.
Should the reader believe the author has gone adrift
from reality, we suggest to you a bookwritten in 1980 and
published by the Reader’s Digest. It is titled, “The World’s
Last Mysteries.” Reader’s Digest, The World’s Last
Mysteries (Live Link) ~ (Pleasantville, New York, 1980),
pp. 64 -92 108 154, et passim.
The book has nothing to do with curing cancer, or
finding life on Mars, or how to cure the crime in our cities.
The leading scientists of the world who contributed articles
to this book of the last of the unsolved mysteries dealt
exclusively with these subjects: Who built the dolmens,
cromlechs, menhirs, and megaliths in Europe? How could
“stone age” men build the giant Temple of Tarxien on the
island of Malta? Who built the giant statues on the island
of Corsica? How could mere men build Stonehenge in
southern England? Who were the architects who designed
and built the city of the gods, Teotihuacan, in Mexico?
Where did the natives get models for the elephant-buhl
like statue and the strange unicorn like animals in the
Indus Valley. How was the pyramid of Cheops near Cairo,
Egypt built? They could give no answers. Obviously, the
answer is to be found in the living words of the living God
in Genesis 6:4, “There were giants in the earth in those
days: and also after that, when the sons of God came in
into the daughters of men, and they bare children to them,
the same became mighty men which were of old, men of
renown” (KJB).
Maria Reiche, the German mathematician and
astronomer spent thirty years of her life in research of
the land of the Nazcas in southern Peru. She is still
baffled by their giant calendar drawings on the ground of
50 yard long spiders and drawings of birds still intact on
the ground. Some of the creatures arc thirty to over three
hundred yards long with wing spans of 140 yards. She
confesses the bestiary of the Nazcas is simply beyond all
human solution.
To the Bible student who believes the words of
God, these “unsolved” mysteries prove to be no
problem at all. Based upon the Bible account given in
Genesis Chapter Six, we find the solution in fallen angels,
called “sons of God,” who left their estate in heaven and
materialized as men on planet earth. These “men” had
sexual intercourse with women producing some type of
bizarre creatures. Evidently, they had homosexual
tendencies as well. Sexual passions toward male animals
with whom they had sexual intercourse produced the
bestiality that puzzles scientists today who refuse to
accept God’s account of what happened. The Bible also
accounts for the religious fervor of these anomalies.
These creatures and beasts became the “gods” of the
ancient and modern worlds.
Psalm 96:4-5 declares, “For the LORD is great,
and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared
above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are
idols: but the LORD made the heavens” (KJB).
History reveals many of the gods of the world.
Obviously, the world had models after which they could
sculpture their gods. For example: the nations of the world
made themselves images and statues to Zeus, Thor,
Jupiter. Neptune, Mercury, Diana, Artemis, Horus, Bel,
Baal, Nanna, Buddha, Shiva, Amun, Isis and Osiris to
mention a few. As you study the gods of the nations of the
world whether it be in India, Burma, Thailand, Japan.
South America, Central America, Mexico, Egypt, Africa or
United States, you will find statues, images, shrines and
idols dedicated to these gods as real creatures who
inhabited this earth. They were memorialized and then
later were worshipped as gods following the days of Noah.
The next truth we need to pursue is to determine the
plan and program of Satan. What are his goals? By what
means does he intend to achieve these goals?
We have already noted that Lucifer became Satan
because of his desire to occupy a throne in Heaven
equal to God’s throne and rule over Heavenly Hosts.
Satan lost in his goal and became a judged creature. In
some way, he was able to assemble a large force of
angelic and super-natural beings and rally them around
his cause. His continued desire is to rule from a throne,
but the subjects for his new dominion are to be humans.
Therefore, he seeks to rule the world of men, politically,
religiously and economically. The Bible record indicates
that all of his efforts are now expended toward achieving
these goals among men.
At the same time, God is vitally interested in man.
John 3:16 declares, “For God so loved the world, that he
gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in
him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (KJB) The
Lord Jesus Christ is not only the Savior of the world. but
God’s plans for Him include ruling the world from a throne
in Jerusalem as the Greater Son of David. Note Romans
1:3. “Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was
made of the seed of David according to the flesh” (KJB).
Obviously, we are faced with a clash of plans,
programs and wills. We have a Creator who loves us in
Christ, and in turn seeks our love. devotion and surrender
to His authority after we are saved by His grace. In
contrast, the Devil’s plan is to use man for his own selfish
purposes to gain a throne and achieve his life long
ambition to rule and control mankind.
Satan is known as a liar in John 8:44, “Ye are of your
father the devil and the lusts of your father ye will do.
He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode
not in the truth, because there is no truth in him.
When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for
he is a liar, and the father of it” (KJB).
He is also described as a deceiver in Revelation 12:9,
“And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent,
called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the
whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his
angels were cast out with him” (KJB).
Since these are God’s identifying marks of Satan,
we can expect Satan to use lies and deceit to achieve his
goals. He is so supernaturally clever, that unless we are
aware of his devices, no human being could withstand his
logic, wisdom or his cunning approach to achieving these
goals. For example. Satan is not an angel. but a cherub.
Not only that. he was known as the “anointed cherub that
covereth.” “The Lord Jesus Christ is also called the
“Anointed One.”
Acts 4:27 declares, “For of a truth against the
holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed. both
Herod, and Pontius Pi late, with the Gentiles, and
the people of Israel, were gathered together”
(KJB).
Immediately, we can see the plot of Satan
thickening. What he really plans to do is to deceive the
world by making men think that the Devil is really the
Christ, the Messiah, and then get the world to follow him.
He will work this scheme until he accomplishes the
consummation of his ambition which will be realized for a
span of 42 months.
Revelation 13:5 informs us. “And there was
given unto him a mouth speaking great
things and blasphemies; and power was
given unto him to continue forty and two
months” (KJB).
Note these interesting verses in Acts 4:26-27.
“The kings of the earth stood up. and the
rulers were gathered together against the
Lord, and against His Christ. For of a truth
against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast
anointed. both Herod, and Pontius Pilate.
with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel,
were gathered together” (KJB).
Notice that Paul speaks of The Father’s Christ. This
is significant because Satan will also have his christ, the
Antichrist. Observe the same truth given in Luke 2:26,
“And it was revealed unto him by the Holy
Ghost, that he should not see death. before
he had seen the Lord’s Christ” (KJB).
In the Book of Daniel, we have two
princes. The Messiah. the Lord’s Prince in
Daniel 9:25. “Know therefore and
understand, that from the going forth of the
commandment to restore and to build
Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall
be seven weeks, and threescore and Iwo
weeks: the street shall be built again, and
the wall, even in troublous times” (KJB). In
Daniel 9:26, we are informed of the Devil’s
prince, who is the antichrist, “And after
threescore and Iwo weeks shall Messiah be
cut off but not for himself and the people of
the prince that shall come shall destroy the
city and the sanctuary: and the end thereof
shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the
war desolations are determined” (KJB).
To impress our minds with the deceitfulness of
Satan’s program, we shall outline some of the mimicry
of Satan.
1. Christ has a city who is called His bride
(Revelation 21).
— Satan has a city who is called his bride
(Revelation 17).
2. Christ is part of the Divine Trinity (1 John 5:7).
“For there are three that bear record in
heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy
Ghost: and these three are one.” (KJB).
— Satan is part of the Satanic Trinity
(Revelation 16:13).
“And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs
come out of the mouth of the dragon, and
out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the
mouth of the false prophet.” (KJB).
3. Christ is the Light of the World (John 8:12; 9:5).
“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying,
I am the light of the world: he that followeth
me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have
the light of life.” (KJB).
John 9:5 “As long as I am in the world, I am
the light of the world.” (KJB).
— Satan is called an “angel of light.” (2 Corinthians 11:14).
“And no marvel; for Satan himself is
transformed into an angel of light.” (KJB).
4. Christ is called the King of kings (Revelation 19:16).
“And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh
a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND
LORD OF LORDS.” (KJB).
— Satan is called a king over all the children of
pride (Job 41:34).
“He beholdeth all high things: he is a king
over all the children of pride.” (KJB).
5. Christ is called the “Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6).
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is
given: and the government shall be upon his
shoulder: and his name shall be called
Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The
everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
(KJB).
— Satan is called the “Prince of this world.”
(John 14:30).
“Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for
the prince of this world cometh, and hath
nothing in me.” (KJB).
6. Christ was called “My Lord and my God” (John 20:28).
“And Thomas answered and said unto him,
My Lord and my God.” (KJB).
— Satan is called the “god of this world” (2 Corinthians 4:4).
“In whom the god of this world hath blinded
the minds of them which believe not, lest the
light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is
the image of God, should shine unto them.”
(KJB).
7. Christ when He was tempted said, “It is written.”
(Luke 4:4).
“And Jesus answered him, saying, It is
written, That man shall not live by bread
alone, but by every word of God.” (KJB).
— Satan was able to answer, “It is written.”
(Matthew 4:6).
“And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of
God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He
shall give his angels charge concerning thee:
and in their hands they shall bear thee up,
lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a
stone.” (KJB).
8. Christ is called “The Lion of the Tribe of Judah”
(Revelation 5:5).
“And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep
not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the
Root of David, hath prevailed to open the
book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.”
(KJB).
— Satan is called the “Roaring Lion” (1 Peter
5:8).
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your
adversary the devil, as a roaring lion,
walketh about, seeking whom he may
devour:” (KJB).
9. Christ ministered 42 months (Luke 3:23: John 2:13; John 5:1).
Luke 3:23" And Jesus himself began to be
about thirty years of age, being (as was
supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the
son of Heli,” (KJB).
John 2:13 “And the Jews’ passover was at
hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,”
(KJB).
John 5:1 “After this there was a feast of the
Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.”
(KJB).
— Satan, the beast will minister for 42 months
(Revelation 13:5).
“And there was given unto him a mouth
speaking great things and blasphemies; and
power was given unto him to continue forty
and two months.” (KJB).
With this extensive background into the creature
we know as Satan and his retinue of obedient spirit beings
called “sons of God” who became merely “gods” for
human worship, devils, principalities, powers and his
whole task force. let us return to the Book of Job and
watch how Satan works to accomplish his goal of human
submission.
For a few brief moments in the first two chapters
of the Book of Job, God draws back the veil that
separates the natural from the supernatural and gives us a
glimpse into the spirit world. The picture is not a pleasant
one, but is most assuredly a real one.
The author does not pretend to understand the
scene, but he believes the details are completely
trustworthy and incontestable since they are God’s
revelation to us. First of all. we are told in Job 1:6, “Now
there was a day when the sons of God came to present
themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also
among them” (KJB). We have learned previously that
these sons of God were fallen angels who looked like
men. They did not have wings. They are called “the gods”
throughout the Old Testament and the New Testament as
well. Example: In I Samuel 28:13 we read, “And the king
said unto her, Be not afraid: for what sawest thou? And
the woman said unto Saul, I saw gods ascending out of
the earth” (KJB).
Let us speculate? I wonder which of the earthly
“gods” showed up this day? I wonder if Zeus were
there? How about Poseidon, the god of the sea? How
about Ra from Egypt or Bel from Babylon, or maybe Jove
from Greece or Jupiter from Rome? Most assuredly Baal
would have been there for of all the “gods” of the human
world, Satan has used this fallen angel disguised as Baal
most effectively, especially against God’s own people,
Israel.
We do not have all of the answers concerning
Satan’s task force, but we have introduced the thought to
impress our minds with the truth that the “gods” were
there. They were present for one purpose: that was, to use
their influence to gain more converts for Satan. Notice, “. .
. . Satan came also among them.” When the “boss” shows
up there must be a big job to be accomplished. There was!
A man by the name of Job, down there on planet earth
was stubborn and unyielding to all their suggestions to sin
and rebel against God. The “gods” have been powerless
to move this man from his hatred of evil. his uprightness
and his fear of God. Satan has a plan he wants to put into
operation.
Our omniscient God knows what Satan wants
before he inquires, but the Lord opens the conversation by
saying, “ . . . . Whence comest thou . . . . ?” Satan’s
answer should send shivers up our spines. He answered, “
. . . . From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking
up and down in it.” What was Satan doing? He was
seeking souls. I Peter 5:8 reminds us. “Be sober, be
vigilant: because your adversary the devil, as a roaring
lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (KJB).
Where have you been. Satan? “Oh. walking around the
earth seeking whom I could devour.” “Have you
considered my servant, Job?” queried the Lord. I detect
the Lord was being sarcastic with the Devil. If Satan knew
anybody was on the earth, he certainly knew Job was
there in the land of Uz.
Then our Lord seemed to pour some salt into
Satan’s wounds. Job 1:8 quotes the Lord. “And the
LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant
Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and
an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth
evil? (KJB). How well the Devil knew that story. Now is the
time, however, to try a new plan to capture the life of Job.
Satan whines to God, “Then Satan answered the LORD,
and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? Hast not thou
made an hedge about him, and about his house, and
about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the
work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the
land. But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he
hath, and he will curse thee to thy face” (KJB).
In other words, Satan was saying, “Why shouldn’t
Job love and serve you and fear you?You have put a
hedge around him. You bless everything he does. You
have made him the richest man in the east. Take
everything from him and You will see. Job will curse You
to Your face. God accepts the challenge and gives Satan
the permission he wants to take from Job everything he
has on the premise Job will curse God to his face. With
the permission granted, Satan goes out from the presence
of the lord and heads for the land of Uz. Without a bout,
the “gods” go with Satan.
Since Satan is not omnipresent, he must use his
“gods” to assist him The “god” of the Sabeans stirred up
these people against Job. On some pretext, undoubtedly
“religious,” the god of the Sabeans caused them to attack,
steal Job’s oxen and asses and then kill all of the
servants, but one, so he could come and torture Job with
the news.
Satan took charge of the next task. Satan has the
power to cause fire to fall down from heaven
Revelation 13:13 informs us, “And he doeth great
wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven
on the earth in the sight of men” (KJB). Satan sent fire
from heaven, burned alive all 7,000 of Job’s sheep in one
fiery blast from this fire breathing monster. Job 41.21
declares, “His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out
of his mouth” (KJB). Not only did Satan breathe fire upon
Job’s herd of sheep and kill them, but he burned Job’s
shepherds alive as well. Once again, Satan spared one
shepherd so he could go and convey the disaster to Job.
Observe Satan’s psychological torture methods. Next the
Chaldean “god” caused the Chaldeans to come and steal
all 3,000 of Job’s camels and kill all the camel tenders, but
one.
The last blow, of course, was the most terrible of
all. This act must have been under the direct supervision
of Satan, He sends a tornado from the wilderness that
smote all four corners of the home where Job’s ten grown
children were having a party. Everyone in the disaster was
killed except one servant whom Satan permitted to live
and carry the somber news to Job.
The climax was that Satan and the “gods” were
defeated for Job did not charge God foolishly. Job 1:22
declares, “In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God
foolishly” (KJB). Our purpose in retelling the story is to
emphasize the strategy of Satan, his awesome power his
cruelty, his psychological torture methods, but most of all,
the protection of our Lord who spares us arid allows Satan
to move against us only to the degree that the Lord will
lower the hedge that God has around His own.
In Chapter two, much of the early part of the story is
once again repeated showing Satan and the “gods” have
ready access to God in Heaven. Revelation 12:10
informs us that Satan is the accuser of the brethren, “And I
heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come
salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and
the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is
cast down, which accused them before our God day and
night” (KJB). During this next visit of Satan and the
“gods”,Satan’s strategy is to seek permission to
assault Job’s physical body, God grants Satan the
permission under the assumption of Satan that if Job were
made to suffer intense pain, Job could be induced to curse
God if the Devil would offer Job relief. Satan believed that
man can suffer any thing but personal pain. God grants
permission to Satan.
The Devil leaves Heaven and swiftly makes his
journey to the land of Uz together with the “gods” to
try his next theory on Job to gain a victory. Job is
immediately smitten with boils and begins over two months
of suffering such as no man has ever suffered apart from
the Lord Jesus Christ. That Job’s suffering lasted at least
two months is gleaned from Job 7:3, “So am I made to
possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are
appointed to me” (KJB).
We remind the reader that we could use the word
“devil” or “devils” to describe Job’s tormentors. We are
purposely using the word “gods” to impress upon our
minds the fact that the “gods” of this world, including
Greek, Roman, Babylonian or Egyptian religion or
mythology are not merely fairy tales. The motivation
behind all religions are fallen angels called, “gods” who
provide the motivating power together with the mind
controlling blindness to cause the masses to follow what
may appear to be ridiculous religions to the Christian, but
are very real to the ones under the influence of these
“fallen angels” called, “gods.”
We know very little about Job’s wife. She is not
mentioned either before or after Job’s trial. She speaks
ten words in the entire book and they are in the midst of
Job’s severest test. Her words are completely Satanic in
nature. The author is of the opinion that Job’s wife was not
“saved.” Perhaps she was a secret follower of one of
the heathen gods. In any case her ten words were placed
in her mind by one of the gods.
Notice, in the scene in Heaven, God had said. “. . .
he still holdeth fast his integrity . . . “ (2:3). Job’s wife
repeated the same words to her husband, “Dost thou still
retain thine integrity?” A godly wife would have been proud
of her husband’s integrity, especially when he is highly
commended by God. Job’s wife, however, makes his
integrity appear to be something evil. Observe again
the tremendous mind control that Satan exercises over the
unrighteous. In Heaven, Satan promised God that if he
could inflict torture upon Job, he would curse God to His
face (2:5, “ . . . touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.”). Mrs. Job’s
last recorded words are. “Curse God, and die.” (2:9).
How quickly and effectively the conversation that
took place in Heaven moments beforeare transmitted
into the mind of Job’s wife by the gods. These words are
used in conjunction with Satan’s plan against her husband
to defeat him and help Satan win a victory. Again we must
learn to spot the “wiles of the devil” (Ephesians 6:11).
Once more Satan is frustrated. Job has not sinned. He
has retained his integrity. lie has not sinned with his lips.
Job is suffering in silence and with patience. James 5:11
informs us, “Behold, we count them happy which endure.
Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the
end of the Lord: that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender
mercy” (KJB).
Satan has one more plan before he gives up on
Job, however. The plan has two parts. We have noted
previously that Job in his well days had been feet to the
lame, the eyes to the blind, the father to the fatherless and
the benefactor to all the poor of his area. We might readily
ask, “Where are all these people now that Job needs a
friend?” Let us remember the influence of the gods again.
Every one probably had good intentions of coming and
trying to help Job in his time of trial, BUT . . . Following
each good intention would have been a well formed
excuse planted in the mind by Satan to keep the right
people away from Job. Note the New Testament
counterpart recorded in Luke 9:57-62:
“And it came to pass, that, as they went in
the way, a certain. man said unto him, Lord, I
will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
Arid Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes,
and birds of the air have nests; but the Son
of man hath not where to lay his head. And
he said unto another, Follow me. But he
said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my
father. Jesus said unto him, Let the dead
bury their dead: but go thou and preach the
kingdom of God. And another also said,
Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid
them farewell, which are at home at my
house. And Jesus said unto him, No man,
having put his hand to the plough, and
looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God”
(KJB).
There were four fellows that Satan knew, however,
who would add the final touch to Job’s suffering and
make him curse God to his face. Suddenly, these men felt
constrained by “God” to go and comfort Job, and off they
went. They were very nearly successful in getting Job to
do what Satan could not accomplish in any other way.
Once again we must be made aware of the great
influence and power of the enemy of our souls. In the
end, Job was brought to repentance, his “comforters” were
humiliated and Job has completed his battle with Satan
with flying colors. God blessed Job, doubled what he had
in the beginning, raising the hedge against Satan once
more and then permitting this great saint to live for 140
more years. What great lessons Job could have taught his
grandchildren about Satan and his subtle workings. May
we too, learn from this saint’s experience with the
“Wicked One.”
Although Satan was thoroughly defeated in his
plans to destroy Job and his testimony, we know that
Satan did not go out of business. He merely turned to
other victims. Satan has been busy ever since laying the
ground work for his ultimate plan to rule the world of
humans as their King with his “messiah” at his right hand
in duplicity of God’s Messianic Kingdom ruled by His
Anointed Messiah.
A. God’s Messiah As Seen By The Eyes Of The Father:
— Once more we repeat for emphasis that the
only proper way to understand the words of
God is by comparing Scripture with Scripture.
1 Corinthian’. 2:13-14 makes this clear:
“Which things also we speak, not in the
words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but
which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing
spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural
man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of
God: for they are foolishness unto him:
neither can he know them, because they are
spiritually discerned” (KJB).
— The Bible is God’s Supernatural Book with
every word a tried and authenticated word. Psalm 12:6-7 informs us, “The words of the LORD are
pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth,
purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O
LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this
generation for ever” (KJB). Therefore, God not
only uses His own language, but in His Book
defines how every word in that Book is to be
understood.
— The error of scholarship through the years.
including the present day, is to compare the
words of God with man’s wisdom, his science
or man’s philosophies. As a result, God’s pure,
tried, preserved words, are dragged through the
slime of man’s depraved imaginations and come
out polluted with his own ignorance. Admittedly, it
is more conducive to man’s pride to interpret
God’s words in light of man’s own wisdom.
especially in those areas where God has
obviously “made a mistake” in the particular word
He has chosen.
— Every Bible teacher will muddle through
much better at the Judgment Seat of Christ if
he simply acknowledges his ignorance and
surrenders himself to the absolute authority
of the words of God. 2 Corinthians 5:10, “For
we must all appear before the judgment seat of
Christ; that every one may receive the things
done in his body according to that he bath done,
whether it be good or bad” (KJB). A story is told
of Billy Sunday, which the author cannot confirm,
that one day a man asked Billy Sunday a
question about the Bible that Sunday could not
answer. Billy is reported to have responded, “If I
knew everything there is to know about the Bible,
I would have to assume that it was written by a
god who is as dumb as I am.” The author
espouses this position.
— For example, what believer would ever think
of referring to his Savior as a “worm”; yet God
did. In the first of the trilogy of Messianic Psalms 22,23,24, the Holy Spirit saw fit to have David
refer to the Lord Jesus Christ as a worm. Psalm 22:6 declares. “But I am a worm, and no man: a
reproach of men, and despised of the people”
(KJB). If the author thought he were smarter than
God, he would find a better word than “worm”to
call his Savior, but in doing so, the continuity of
the Bible would be destroyed together with a
great truth.
— Job was a picture of a sinner suffering in
Hell. Job was covered with worms. Isaiah 66:2 4
describes Hell with these words, “And they shall
go forth. and look upon the carcases of the men
that have transgressed against me: for their
worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be
quenched: and they shall be an abhorring unto all
flesh:” (KJB). Our Savior said of Hell, it is a place.
“Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not
quenched” (KJB). Observe the context in Mark 9:44-48:
“Where their worm dieth not, and the fire
is not quenched. And if thy foot offend
thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to
enter halt into life, than having two feet
to be cast into hell. into the fire that
never shall be quenched: Where their
worm dieth not. and the fire is not
quenched. And if thine eye offend thee,
pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter
into the kingdom of God with one eye,
than having two eyes to be cast into hell
fire: Where their worm dieth not, and the
fire is not quenched” (KJB).
— As we peer through that “glass darkly,” the
Holy Spirit associates Christ on the cross with a
worm. We might speculate that in some
grotesque way, man will gradually deteriorate
through successive stages of beast like
characteristics until he finally decomposes into a
worm. In that state. he would remain throughout
all eternity in the Lake of Fire. If you believe the
author is drifting into fantasy land, please read
God’s description of those who are presently in
the bottomless pit. Revelation 9:6-10 paints the
picture of such deterioration:
“And in those days shall men seek
death, and shall not find it; and shall
desire to die, and death shall flee from
them. And the shapes of the locusts
were like unto horses prepared unto
battle; and on their heads were as it
were crowns like gold, and their faces
were as the faces of men. And they had
hair as the hair of women, and their
teeth were as the teeth of lions, And
they had breastplates, as it were
breastplates of iron; and the sound of
their wings was as the sound of chariots
of many horses running to battle. And
they had tails like unto scorpions, and
there were stings in their tails: and their
power was to hurt men five months”
(KJB).
— Not only that, but God likens His Son to a
serpent on a pole in John 3:14. “And as Moses
lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so
must the Son of man be lifted up” (KJB). John the
Baptist called the Lord Jesus Christ “the Lamb of
God” (John 1:29), while the Apostle John sees
the Savior as a “Lion” (Revelation 5:5). We
observe a Bible fact is established whereby the
Holy Spirit likens spiritual beings, including
the Savior, to animals, reptiles and worms.
B. Satan’s Messiah As God Sees Him:
— We have noted previously that in the same
manner as we have a Divine Trinity; Father,
Son and Holy Spirit; there is a trinity of evil with
Satan described as a father, John 8:44. “Ye are
of your father the devil, and the lusts of your
father ye will do. He was a murderer from the
beginning, and abode not in the truth, because
there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie,
he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the
father of it “ (KJB). Satan’s messiah, is called the
antichrist or son of perdition. John 6:70-71,
“Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you
twelve, and one of you is a devil? He spake of
Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that
should betray him, being one of the twelve”
(KJB).
— Note also John 17:12, “While I was with them
in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that
thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is
lost, but the son of perdition: that the scripture
might be fulfilled” (KJB). The third member of
the Satanic trinity of evil is the unclean spirit or
the false prophet mentioned in Revelation 16:13, “And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs
come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of
the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of
the false prophet” (KJB). These three
personalities arc described in the Bible and are
seen as beasts through the eyes of God.
— Beginning in Job 40:15 and continuing to the
end of the chapter, we observe God describing
a beast by the name of Behemoth. This beast
gives scholars such a difficult time because they
try and compare the beast with some animal they
can find in the field of Zoology. Dr. Scofield
declares that the beast is an elephant. (Scofield,
loc. cit., p. 596). Dr. Gleason Archer believes
Behemoth is a hippopotamus. (Archer, loc. cit..
465).
— Hebrew scholars such as Driver, Delitzsch,
Gesenius and Keil, who depend so heavily on
the Hebrew to correct our Authorized Bible,
suddenly do an about face when they approach
this word. As all Hebrew scholars know, the word
is “bahemah” which is a plural word normally
translated “beasts.” Behemoth, according to the
Hebrew is a multiple beast appearing as a single
unit. Now the scholar’s problem was that they
went to the zoo to find the interpretation of the
passage, rather than comparing Scripture with
Scripture. Francis I. Andersen accurately sums
up the general opinions among scholars. He
says, (Anderson. loc. cit., p. 288):
It is not easy to tell whether these creatures (Behemoth and Leviathan) are real
or fabulous, and, if real. what they actually are (hippopotamus, crocodile or
whale)? If mythological, can we find them in some of the old myths? A general
conclusion on this point at the outset shows up in the slant of the resultant
translations. If real beasts are described, then the fanciful language (such as
breathing fire) is a license agreeable to poetry, but out of place in a zoology
textbook. If, however, they are mythological, the translator will take the fire quite
literally -- it is a veritable dragon! -- allow the language to move even further into
the realm of the fantastic.
— Although, great names can be quoted in
support of the mythological theory, we think that
a naturalistic interpretation is better. And,
without trying to count votes, we think that a
majority of scholars incline to this view.
— It is difficult for a Bible student to
understand why the scholars did not think to
compare Scripture with Scripture rather than
compare the Bible with the zoo. What we are
looking for is a multiple animal that obviously
represents something else, most certainly not a
hippopotamus, a crocodile, a whale or an
elephant. The Bible does have the answer.
— In Daniel Chapter Seven, the Lord gives to
Daniel the history of the “Times of the Gentiles”
covering four empires. Daniel 7:2-3 informs us,
“Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by
night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven
strove upon the great sea. And four great beasts
came up from the sea, diverse one from another”
(KJB). The Great Sea Daniel is referring to is the
literal Mediterranean Sea clearly identified on
older maps. Dr. Scofield’s
remarks on page 909 of his
reference Bible, “The ‘sea’ in Scripture
imagery stands for the populace, the mere
unorganized mass of mankind.” (Some questions are saught for this entry).
— The first world empire identified by Daniel
was like a lion (7:4); the second was like a bear
(7:5); the third was like a leopard (7:6); while the
fourth and final worldempire that would be in
existence before the Second Advent of the Son
of God to claim His Millennial Kingdom would be
a composite beast with ten horns (7:7).
— With this background given by Daniel we
can turn to Revelation 13:1-2. Here John reveals
what he saw, “And I stood upon the sand of the
sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea,
having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his
horns ten crowns. and upon his heads the name
of blasphemy. And the beast which I saw was like
unto a leopard, and his fret were as the feet of a
bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and
the dragon gave him his power. and his seat, and
great authority” (KJB).The Dragon is the Devil.
This plural beast who forms a single unit is none
other than the second person of the trinity of evil,
the antichrist. By comparing Scripture with
Scripture, we did not need to go to the zoo, nor
did we need to do violence to either the Hebrew
or the English to find Behemoth of the Book of
Job.
— Note once again Job 40:15. “Behold now
BEHEMOTH, which I made with thee: he eateth
grass as an ox “ (KJB). For a closer look at the
antichrist under the disguise of Behemoth, we
notice that this leopard-lion-bear is also
associated with the ox. We have noted previously
that one of the Devil’s favorite religions through
the years and the one that will be restored during
the Tribulation Period is Baal Worship. Baalism
has been associated with the ox. Note the
following verses:
1 Kings 18:26, “And they took the bullock
which was given them, and they dressed it,
and called on the name of Baal from morning
even until noon, saying, 0 Baal, hear us. But
there was no voice, nor any that answered.
And they leaped upon the altar which was
made” (KJB).
Acts 14:13, “Then the priest of Jupiter, which
was before their city, brought oxen and
garlands unto the gates, and would have
done sacrifice with the people” (KJB).
— When Nebuchadnezzar was driven insane
for refusing to give God the glory for his great
kingdom, he ate grass like an ox. Daniel 4:33
informs us, “The same hour was the thing fulfilled
upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from
men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body
was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs
were grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails
like birds’ claws” (KJB). After studying the life of
Job, we can not escape the significance of who
was responsible for Nebuchadnezzar’s rebellion
against God.
— Observe these additional facts concerning
Behemoth in Job 40:16-18:
“Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his
force is in the navel of his belly. He moveth
his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones
are wrapped together. His bones are as
strong pieces of brass; his bones are like
bars of iron” (KJB).
— Here we are given the supernatural strength
of the antichrist, not of an elephant, a crocodile,
a whale or a hippopotamus. Notice, Behemoth
cannot be defeated by carnal weapons.
Obviously, this can not be said of a
hippopotamus, a crocodile, a whale, or an
elephant. The only way Behemoth can be
defeated is with God’s sword. Please read the
following verses:
Ephesians 6:11-13, “Put on the whole
armour of God, that ye may be able to stand
against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle
not against flesh and blood, but against
principalities, against powers, against the
rulers of the darkness of this world, against
spiritual wickedness in high places.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour
of God, that ye may be able to withstand in
the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about
with truth, and having on the breast-plate of
righteousness; And your feet shod with the
preparation of the gospel of peace, Above
all. taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye
shall be able to quench all the fiery dart! of
the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation,
and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word
of God: Praying always with all prayer and
supplication in the Spirit, and watching
thereunto with all perseverance and
supplication for all saints” (KJB).
Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is quick,
and powerful, and sharper than any two
edged sword, piercing even to the dividing
asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints
and marrow, and is a discerner of the
thoughts and intents of the heart” (KJB).
— Mark one more fact about this composite
beast, the Antichrist, or Behemoth. He is
associated with the Jordan River. In all of the
author’s research, he can find absolutely no trace
of any record of an elephant, crocodile,
hippopotamus or a whale being anywhere near
the Jordan River. Nevertheless, Behemoth is
pictured as drawing up the entire Jordan River
into his mouth. Job 40:23 reveals the truth,
“Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not:
he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his
mouth?’ (KJB). This can not be a picture of an
elephant, a crocodile, hippopotamus or a
whale since this would be impossible for any of
these animals assuming they had been or ever
will be anywhere near the Jordan River.
— Although we will present additional information
later, please observe that during the Great
Tribulation Period, the Antichrist (Behemoth)
will attempt to drown the remnant of Israel as
they hide from him in the bowl city of Petra.
Observe the facts given in the following verses:
Daniel 9:26, “And after threescore and
two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but
not for himself: and the people of the
prince that shall come shall destroy the
city and the sanctuary; and the end
thereof shall be with a flood, and unto
the end of the war desolations are
determined” (KJB).
Amos 9:5, “And the Lord GOD of hosts is
he that toucheth the land, and it shall
melt, and all that dwell therein shall
mourn: and it shall rise up wholly like a
flood; and shall he drowned, as by the
flood of Egypt” (KJB).
Revelation 12:13-16, “And when the
dragon saw that he was cart unto the
earth, he persecuted the woman which
brought forth the man child. And to the
woman were given two wings of a great
eagle, that she might fly into the
wilderness, into her place, where she is
nourished tor a time, and times, and half
a time, from the face of the serpent. And
the serpent cast out of his mouth water
as a flood after the woman, that he
might cause her to be carried away of
the flood. And the earth helped the
woman, and the earth opened her
mouth, and swallowed up the flood
which the dragon cast out of his mouth”
(KJB).
— Once more we must remind the reader to
beware of the wiles of the devil who covers his
tracks by getting leaders to call him a
crocodile, a whale, a hippopotamus or an
elephant when these animals have absolutely no
Bible significance whatsoever with the subject at
hand. Behemoth is the leopard-lion-bear beast of
Revelation 13.
— This may be of passing interest to any Bible
student reading this. Should you be interested tn
Bible numerology, observe the numbers 13 and
6. Six is tile number of man, but it is also related
to Satan. The real chiller is the number 13. The
next time you read through your Bible, mark
every chapter and verse that begins with the
number 13 or its multiple. Look for names with 13
letters. Be careful it does not give you a case of
triskaidekaphobia.
— Note a few examples. It is in John 13 verse
26 (2 x 13) where Judas Iscariot (13
letters)ultimately rejects the Lord Jesus Christ. In
John 13:13, there are 13 words (the word “so”
has been added by the translators). John 13:13,
“Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for
so I am (KJB). Master is one of the names for
Baal, Hosea 2:16, “And it shall be at that day,
saith the LORD, that thou shalt call me Ishi; and
shalt call me no more Baali” (KJB). Judas
Iscariot never called Jesus “Lord,” but always
“master.”
— The antichrist appears in Revelation 13. He
calls down fire from Heaven in Revelation 13:13,
“And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh
fire come down from heaven on the earth in the
sight of men” (KJB). The number of the beast is
found in Revelation 13:18 (3 x 6), “Here is
wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count
the number of the beast: for it is the number of a
man; and his number is Six hundred threescore
and six” (KJB) God’s Scriptures ate not only
supernatural, but are supernaturally assembled.
— Note also that the antichrist’s church has 13
words, composed of 65 letters (13 x 5), with 5
being the number of death. Revelation 17:5,
“And upon her forehead was a name written,
MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE
MOTHER OF HARLOTSAND ABOMINATIONS
OF THE EARTH.
C. A Summary Of Behemoth As Antichrist:
These notes from the author’s Bible were
compiled over a 31 year ministry. Credits would go to a
great host of Bible teachers in college, seminary,
seminars, Bible conferences, together with the author’s
own personal study with the help of an extensive personal
library.
A man rises up out of the Mediterranean Sea
(Daniel 7:3, “And four great beasts came up from the sea,
diverse one from another.”; Revelation 13:1, “And I stood
upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of
the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his
horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of
blasphemy.”) and takes over the papal throne in the
Vatican. He was a man who lived before John wrote the
Book of Revelation. Revelation 17:8 informs us, “The
beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend
out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they
that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were
not written in the book of life from the foundation of the
world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not,
and yet is” (K JB).
He was not on earth when John wrote Revelation
but he will come back from the bottomless pit, Revelation 11:7, “And when they shall have finished their testimony,
the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall
make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill
them” (KJB). He was on this earth as a man before John
wrote. He was born of human parents, yet was called a
devil by Christ. John 6:70, “Jesus answered them. Have
not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?” (KJB).
This man (Judas Iscariot, the man with 13 letters in
his name), delivered Christ to the Romans. He committed
suicide and went to his own place, not Hell but the bottom
less pit. Acts 1:25, “That he may take part of this ministry
and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell
that he might go to his own place” (KJB). Judas Iscariot
was called “the son of perdition. 2 Thessalonians 2:3, “Let
no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not
come, except there come a falling away first, and that man
of sin be revealed, the son of perdition” (KJB). (See also
John 17:12, “While I was with them in the world, I kept
them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept,
and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the
scripture might be fulfilled.” (KJB)
Judas Iscariot is now in the bottomless pit as a
devil who rules as a king, Revelation 9:11, “And they had
a king over them, which is the angel of the bottom less pit,
whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the
Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon” (KJB). Judas
Iscariot was a fallen angel who now reigns over the
bottomless pit. He is the second person of the unholy
trinity of evil, Satan the dragon; Judas Iscariot, the beast
and Antichrist; and the false prophet or false spirit
(Revelation 16:13, “And I saw three unclean spirits like
frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the
mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false
prophet.” (KJB)
Notice also these types in the Old Testament in
Numbers 22:41. “And it came to pass on the morrow, that
Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into the high
places of Baal, that thence he might see the utmost part of
the people” (KJB). Balak is a type of the false king or
Antichrist. Balaam is a type of the false prophet. Baal is a
type of Satan the Dragon or the false god.
After the Rapture of the true church, Judas Iscariot
will ascend out of the bottomless pit; erupt from the
Mediterranean Sea near the coast of Italy and proceed to
Rome where he will take charge of the Roman Catholic
system plus the apostate religions of the world and reign
as king and Antichrist. He will make a peace covenant with
Israel guaranteeing the Israelis peace with their Arab
neighbors for seven years. Judas Iscariot will sweep his
hand over the temple compound and eliminate the Dome
of the Rock Mosque together with the El Aksa Mosque.
These pagan shrines will disappear with the sweep of his
hand. In their place, will be a beautiful temple that he will
dedicate to the Hebrews [Revelation 11:2] so that their priesthood, sacrifices
and feasts may be observed on the temple compound.
Remember, the Devil with a sweep of his hand caused all
the kingdoms of the world to appear before Christ when
the Devil tempted Christ on Mt. Sinai. See Matthew 4:8,
“Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceedingly high
mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world,
and the glory of them” (KJB).
Judas Iscariot will begin his ministry by offering
peace and flattering the world. Daniel 11:21, “And in his
estate shall stand up a vile person, to whom they shall not
give the honour of the kingdom: but he shall come in
peaceably, and obtain the kingdom by flatteries” (KJB). He
will become rich by raising taxes. Daniel 11:20, “Then
shall stand up in his estate a raiser of taxes in the glory of
the kingdom: but within few days he shall be destroyed,
neither in anger, nor in battle.” (KJB)
He will use music as a controlling device over the
mind and the passions of the world as did
Nebuchadnezzar, Daniel 3:10, “Thou, O king, hast made a
decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the
cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all
kinds of musick, shall fall down and worship the golden
image:” (KJB). Judas Iscariot will return as a giant since
giants are to return to this world once more:
Genesis 6:4: “There were giants in the earth
in those days; and also after that, when the
sons of God came in unto the daughters of
men, and they have children to them, the
same became mighty men which were of
old, men of renown.” (KJB).
Luke 17:26: And as it was in the days of
Noe, so shall it he also in the days of the Son
of man.” (KJB).
After ruling the world for three and one half years,
another cataclysm takes place. The Devil and his retinue
of fallen angels will be expelled from the Sea in Heaven.
Revelation 12:9 gives the picture, “And the great dragon
was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan,
which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the
earth, and his angels were cast out with him”, (KJB).
Satan will go to Jerusalem and occupy the Tribulation
Temple made miraculously three and one half years
earlier through his power. He will take his place in the
Temple declaring that he is god.
For the past three and one half years, Judas Iscariot
has been ruling the world from Rome as king and
Antichrist. He will be summoned from Rome by the Devil
to rendezvous with Satan and the false prophet in the
temple at Jerusalem Judas Iscariot will leave Rome and
travel southeast to the pleasant land of Palestine. Daniel 8:9 informs us, “And out of one of them came forth a little
horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and
toward the east, and toward the pleasant land” (KJB).
While on his journey to Jerusalem Judas Iscariot, the
Antichrist will he assassinated, Revelation 13.3,12 “And I
saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his
deadly wound was healed; and all the world wondered
after the beast. And he exerciseth all the power of the first
beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which
dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly
wound was healed” (KJB). This will cause Judas Iscariot to
have a bad right eye and a bad right arm, Zechariah 11:17, “Woe to the idol shepherd that leaveth the flock! the
sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eve; his
arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be
utterly darkened” (KJB).
Following his resurrection from the dead by
Satan, the Antichrist, Judas Iscariot will have no problem
convincing any skeptics that he is actually “the Christ.” The
breaking of the peace covenant will mark the time of
Jacob’s trouble for Israel. Jeremiah 30:7 gives us this
awesome truth, “Alas! for that day is great, so that none is
like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be
saved out of it” (KJB). Daniel prophesied of this
breaking of the covenant in Daniel 9:27, “And he shall
confirm the covenant with many for one week; and in the
midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the
oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of
abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the
consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon
tile desolate” (KJB).
This time was revealed to the Hebrews by the
Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 24:15, 21-22 “When ye
therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken
of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place. (whoso
readeth. let him understand:) For then shall be great
tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the
world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those
days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved:
but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened”
(KJB).
This leads us to the scene in Revelation 11:1-2,
“And there was given me a reed like unto a rod:
and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure
the temple of God, and the altar, and them that
worship therein. But the court which is without the
temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is
given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall
they tread under foot forty and two months”
(KJB). The trinity of evil now occupies the literal
tribulation temple on the temple compound in
Jerusalem. 2 Thessalonians 2:34 reveals the
goal of Satan to be worshiped as god. We read.
“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that
day shall not come, except there come a falling
away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the
son of perdition; who opposeth and exalteth
himself above all that is called God, or that is
worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the
temple of God, shewing himself that he is God”
(KJB). Satan will sit in the Holy of Holies as the
“anointed cherub that covereth” Ezekiel 28:14,
“Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and
I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy
mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down
in the midst of the stones of fire.”; Isaiah 14:12-17, How art thou fallen from heaven, O
Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut
down to the ground, which didst weaken the
nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will
ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above
the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of
the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I
will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will
be like the most High. 15 Yet thou shalt be
brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. 16
They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee,
and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that
made the earth to tremble, that did shake
kingdoms; 17 That made the world as a
wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that
opened not the house of his prisoners?” (KJB).
Satan will introduce his favorite religion that he has
used through the years — Baal worship. This will include
human blood sacrifices. Revelation 6:9-10, “And when he
had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of
them that were slain for the word of God. and for the
testimony which they held: And they cried with a loud
voice, saying, How long, 0 Lord, holy and true, dost thou
not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the
earth?” (KJB).
Moses and Elijah will be God’s prophets who will
minister against the trinity of evil. Moses will exercise his
judgment gifts during this time even as he did during his
previous earthly ministry against Pharaoh. Elijah will used
his gifts to stop the rain for three and one half years even
as he did against Ahab. Both Pharaoh and Ahab are types
of the Antichrist in the Old Testament. Note the truth in
Revelation 11:3-6 :
“And I will give power unto my two witnesses,
and they shall prophecy a thousand two
hundred and threescore days, clothed in
sackcloth. These are the two olive trees, and
the two candlesticks standing before the God
of the earth. And if any man will hurt them, fire
proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth
their enemies: and if any man will hurt them he
must in this manner be killed. Those have
power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the
days of their prophecy: and have power over
waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the
earth with all plagues, as often as they will.”
Animal names have been assigned to the trinity of
evil by God. These names are, leopard lion - bear -
behemoth - leviathan (Job 40:15, “Behold now behemoth,
which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.”;
Revelation 13:2-3, “And the beast which I saw was like
unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and
his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him
his power, and his seat, and great authority. 3 And I saw
one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his
deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered
after the beast.” (KJB) The trinity of evil will rule the world
for three and one half years before each will receive his
judgment. Judas Iscariot and the false prophet will be sent
immediately to the Lake of Fire. Satan, however, will be
chained in the bottomless pit for 1,000 years. Revelation 20:1-3, “And I saw an angel come down from heaven,
having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain
in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon. that old
serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a
thousand years, And cast him unto the bottomless pit, and
shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should
deceive the nations no more. till the thousand years
should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little
season “ (KJB).
Satan will then be loosed for a season of only to be
judged by God and sentenced to the Lake of Fire where
Judas Iscariot and the false prophet have been for the
past 1,000 years. Their fate will be eternal. Revelation 20:10 makes this perfectly clear, “And the devil that
deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and
brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are. and
shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever” (KJB).
D. Satan As God Sees Him:
We have already observed in our study of Satan, that
he is a master at deceit and cleverness. To cover his
plans, purposes and appearance, he uses various
methods of deceit. The last thing Satan wants anyone to
do is to uncover his schemes as revealed in the Bible.
With this in mind, he sidetracks Bible scholars from taking
God’s viewpoint of Satan in terms of a beast and
influences scholars to search the zoo for an animal such
as God describes.
For the liberal scholar, Satan gets them to search
mythology for a superstitious myth to explain God’s
evaluation of Satan. To the literary, unsaved man, Satan
raises up skilled authors to write plays and books about a
“hypothetical” Mephistopheles. To the unsaved man on
the street, Satan raises up cartoonists to draw funny
pictures of a comic looking fellow in a red suit, with horns,
a forked tail and a pitchfork in his hand. Through these
schemes, Satan cleverly causes the majority of the world
to look where he wants them to look, This leaves him free
to carry out his real purposes much as a magician who
gets you to look at his diversion while he supposedly pulls
a coin from his ear. Satan is a master at creating
diversions and creating false allusions.
God has given one of the clearest pictures of Satan
as he really appears in reality as seen by the eyes of God
in Job Chapter 41* under the title of Leviathan. For the
Bible student who refuses to accept the words of God
literally, he creates for himself a gigantic problem. For the
Bible student who will accept the finality of the Bible and
place him self in complete authority to the words of God,
Leviathan becomes a clear and obvious revelation of what
Satan is really like in all of his ferocity.*
A few examples of evangelical thought will reveal
that once again Bible scholars have gone to the zoo to
identify Leviathan. Examples: the following identify
Leviathan as a crocodile; American Standard Version
(1901); New American Standard Version; Revised
Standard Version; Williams translation; and the Amplified
Bible to give a cross section perspective. The New English
Bible calls Leviathan a whale. A cross section of scholars
gleaned from Pre-Millennial to A Millennial to
Post-Millennial reveal they believe that Leviathan is a
crocodile: Adam Clark; Dummelow; Pulpit Commentary; J.
F. B. Commentary and the Wycliffe Commentary.
Francis Anderson found the truth that Satan is a
seven-headed sea dragon, but he believes it originated in
mythology, He says, Anderson, loc. cit., p.289:
Leviathan is the name of a seven-headed sea dragon in the old myths,
particularly those of Canaan before the Israelite occupation. Scraps of this
ancient literature sur vive in the Old Testament, and are undoubtedly the source
of the name used here.
Would the reader please read these Scripture
verses and then conclude whether or not we are dealing
with old Canaanite myths or whether or not we are dealing
with the facts? Revelation 12:3 and 12:9 give us the
following information:
“And there appeared another wonder in heaven;
and behold a great red dragon, having seven
heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his
heads” (KJB).
“And the great dragon was cast out, that old
serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which
deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into
the earth, and his angels were cast out with him”
(KJB).
As for me and my house, we will believe the Lord.
Marvin Pope in his commentary on the Book of Job
makes his position abundantly clear. He relegates the
whole theme of Leviathan to pure pagan mythology. He
declares, Marvin Pope, Job, (New York, 1980), p. 329:
Leviathan — the allusion is to the marine monster called Lotan (Latin) in the
Ugaritic myths.. The Ugaritic texts give no detailed description of Leviathan and
it is difficult to tell because of the poetic parallelism whether the attributes
mentioned apply to the same or different monsters.
After leading his readers through a maze of
Mesopotamian, Egyptian and Akkadian folk lore, he insults
the intelligence and the spiritual sensitivities of the true
Bible believer by adding, Ibid., p. 331:
The supernatural character of Leviathan is abundantly clear from the
data cited above. The Ugaritic myths, dating from the middle of the
second millennium B.C. or earlier, show that the biblical allusions
preserve bits and pieces of the present complex and highly developed
mythology. If the author of the present composition wished merely to
exercise his poetic abilities on the subject of the power and ferocity of
the crocodile, he surpassed his goal at the start with the use of the term
Leviathan.
Andersen is impressed by the research done by
Pope, but he is not convinced that Leviathan my
theological monster. Instead, he adheres to the more
“evangelical” approach by presenting the following
discourse on Leviathan: Andersen, loc. cit., pp. 189-191.
The extravagant picture fits the crocodile well enough, but other
identifications have been proposed, some of which involve dividing the
poem into smaller portions. NEB has settled for the whale, at least in
verses 1-6 . . . Our poet can hardly write a line without including a simile,
a habit which many critics censure as artistic overkill. Considering the
conventions of Wisdom writing, we suspect that Israelites would have
found it delightful according to their own canons. And as for its length,
which has also evoked complaints from modem readers, we think that
the longest poem shout the most terrifying animal was deliberately left
until last to provide a terrific climax.
To which the author must reply, I believe I can hear
the hiss of the serpent and the laughter of the “Prince of
the powers of the air” as he travels to and fro on the earth
seeking whom he may devour.
Now that we have gone through the zoo to find
Leviathan (and have not been successful) and after
taking a journey back through pagan mythology to find
Leviathan (and still he remains obscure), we encourage
the reader to consider what God has to tell us in Job 41
about his majesty, The Devil.
E. Leviathan — God’s Description Of Satan – Job 41:
Isaiah was given the same picture of Satan, “In
that day the LORD with his sore and great
and strong sword shall punish leviathan the
piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked
serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is
in the sea.” (Isaiah 27:1).
1. By comparing Scripture with Scripture we learn
that Leviathan appears as a serpent:
Genesis 3:1, “Now the serpent was more
subtil than any beast of the field which the
LORD God had made. And he said unto the
woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat
of every tree of the garden?” (KJB).
In Isaiah 27:1 quoted previously, we learn that
Leviathan is a piercing serpent and a crooked serpent.
John 8:44 confirms that Leviathan or the Devil is a
crooked serpent,
Isaiah 27:1 “Ye are of your father the devil,
and the lusts of your father ye will do. He
was a murderer from the beginning. and
abode not in the truth, because there is no
truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he
speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the
father of it” (KJB).
Revelation 12:9 assures us that Leviathan is a
dragon.
“And the great dragon was cast out, that old
serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which
deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out
into the earth. and his angels were cast out
with him” (KJB).
2. Satan is described by God as a water animal in
the reptilian family who lives in “a sea.” The
Bible student must be aware that this could not
be a sea on earth, because the Bible plainly tells
us that Satan’s abode is in the heavenlies.
Ephesians 2:2.9 inform us: “Wherein in time past
we walked according to the course of this world,
according to the prince of the power of the air,
the spirit that now worketh in the children of
disobedience: For we wrestle not against flesh
and’ blood. but against principalities, against
powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this
world, against spiritual wickedness in high
places” (KJB).
— Since this is true, we must look for a sea in
the heavenlies where this Reptile has his abode.
This sea in heaven is described in Psalm 148:4,
7 “Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye
waters that be above the heavens. Praise the
LORD from the earth, ye dragons, and all deeps.”
— The truth is expanded farther in Psalm 74:13-14, “Thou didst divide the sea by thy
strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons
in the waters. Thou brakest the heads of
leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to
the people inhabiting the wilderness” (KJB). This
sea in heaven, under the throne of God, is
destroyed in Revelation 21:1 after Satan and
his devils are cast out, “And I saw a new heaven
and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first
earth were passed away; and there was no more
sea” (KJB).
— I have been to some of the largest zoos in the
world, but has never seen a multi-headed
crocodile.
3. We learn in Revelation 12:3 that this multi -
headed Leviathan has seven heads and is red
in color. He also has ten horns with crowns upon
his heads, “And there appeared another wonder
in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having
seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns
upon his heads” (KJB). This would be a very
strange crocodile, indeed.
4. Since it is beyond the scope of this study to
present an exegesis of Job 41, we shall merely
point out a few salient points to establish
additional truth about Satan.
5. Note in the first seven verses of Job 41.,
fourteen questions are asked by God
concerning our relationship to Leviathan. They
absolutely require a negative answer to each
question since we are dealing with Satan under
the title of Leviathan, Job 41:1-7:
“Canst thou draw out leviathan with an
hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou
lettest down? Canst thou put an hook into hi
nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn?
Will he make many supplications unto thee?
will he speak soft words unto thee? Will he
make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take
him for a servant for ever? Wilt thou play
with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him
for thy maidens? Shall the companions make
a banquet of him? shall they part him among
the merchants? Canst thou fill his skin with
barbed irons? or his head with fish spears?”
(KJB).
6. In verses eight and ten we are warned not to
engage him in battle or we shall most
certainly be defeated, Job 41:8-10:
“Lay thine hand upon him, remember the
battle, do no more. Behold, the hope of him
is in vain: shall not one be cast down even at
the sight of him? None is so fierce that dare
stir him up: who then is able to stand before
me?” (KJB).
— We are continually warned in the Bible that
our only hope of winning against Satan isnot
fight, but flight. 1 Timothy 6:1, in speaking of
combat with the Devil says, “But thou, 0 man of
God, flee these things; and follow after
righteousness, godliness, faith love, patience,
meekness” (KJB).
7. No mortal eye has seen Satan in his real form. If
a man did, he would faint at the horror of the
sight.
— Note Job 41:9, quoted previously. When God
gave Daniel a glimpse of the Antichrist, not the
Devil, Daniel not only fainted, but he was sick
certain days after.
— Daniel 8:23-27 declares.
“And in the latter time of their kingdom, when
the transgressors are come to the full, a king
of fierce countenance, and understanding dark
sentences, shall stand up. And his power shall
be mighty, but not by his own power: and he
shall destroy wonder- fully, and shall prosper,
and practice, and shall destroy the mighty and
the holy people. And through his policy also he
shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he
shall magnify himself in his heart, and by
peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand
up against the Prince of princes; but he shall
be broken without hand. And the vision of the
evening and the morning which was told is
true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it
shall be for many days. And I Daniel fainted,
and was sick certain days; afterward I rose up,
and did the king’s business; and I was
astonished at the vision, but none understood
it” (KJB).
— Was this a crocodile? Some scholars must
check their brains at the door when they enter
into their study.
8. The scholars mock at the mythological
“Chinese Dragon” who breathes fire out of his
mouth. Job 41:19-21, “Out of his mouth go
burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out. Out of
h is nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot
or caldron. His breath kindleth coals, and aflame
goeth out of his mouth” (KJB). Job didn’t think it
was very funny when Satan “breathed fire from
his sea in heaven” and burned alive 7,000 sheep
and all of Job’s servants attending his sheep but
one. The world will not think it very amusing
when during the Tribulation Period, this fire
breathing Dragon will call fire down from
heaven before all men, Revelation 13:13, “And
he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire
come down from heaven on the earth in the sight
of men” (KJB).
9. Note in Job 41:26-29 you cannot fight Leviathan
or Satan with carnal weapons, because he is a
spirit being,
“The sword of him that layeth at him cannot
hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon.
He esteemeth iron as straw, and brass as
rotten wood. The arrow cannot make him
flee: slingstones are turned with him into
stubble. Darts are counted as stubble: he
laugheth at the shaking of a spear” (KJB).
— How anyone could believe this is a description
of the invincibility of a crocodile, a whale, a
hippopotamus or an elephant is more than the
author can imagine. 2 Corinthians 10:4 assures
us, “For the weapons of our warfare are not
carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling
down of strong holds;” (KJB). See also,
Ephesians 6:11-17.
— Ephesians 6:11-17:
“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be
able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For
we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against
principalities, against powers, against the rulers of
the darkness of this world, against spiritual
wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto
you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able
to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to
stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt
about with truth, and having on the breastplate of
righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the
preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all,
taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able
to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And
take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the
Spirit, which is the word of God:” (KJB).
10. Job 41:32 gives us the impression that when
Satan travels through the heavenlies, he
leaves a trail behind him like the fiery path of
a comet streaking through the skies, “He maketh
a path to shine after him; one would think the
deep to be hoary” (KJB). I wonder if any of the
scholars who put forth their fancy theories to
correct the King James Bible have ever seen a
flying crocodile or a hippopotamus or an
elephant? The sane person must wonder how
much of the heavenly phenomena called by Iscariot
other names, may in reality be the path and
trail of Satan making his way from his
continuous treks between heaven and earth and
back once more.
.
11. In Job 41:34 we learn that Leviathan or Satan
is a king over all the children of pride, “He
beholdeth all high things: he is a king overall the
children of pride” (KJB). This is a strange
expression to make about a whale or a crocodile,
a pterodactyl or even a hippopotamus, but it is
perfectly appropriate and Scriptural to be made
concerning Satan, Revelation 9:11, “And they
had a king over them, which is the angel of the
bottom less pit, whose name in the Hebrew
tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath
his name Apollyon” (KJB).
— Without doing violence to the plain teaching of
the words of God, but by comparing Scripture
with Scripture, we have located the illusive
reptilian monster that causes the scholars so
much difficulty: Anderson declares, Andersen,
loc. cit., p. 290, “Unfortunately this text is very
difficult.” We answer, fortunately, when a student
of God’s words believes the Bible literally as God
intended it to be believed, the passage can be
clearly understood by anyone with a grade school
education who has a King James Bible, a
concordance, a believing heart, coupled with a
desire to study the words of God 2 Timothy 2:15,
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a
workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly
dividing the word of truth.” (KJB)
F. A Summary Of Leviathan As Satan:
— The author is indebted to a host of great Bible
teachers, either through personal sermons,
college and seminary classes, books, tapes, plus
an extensive personal library, for truth revealed
from God’s Holy Words. Copious notes have
been taken through a 31 year ministry (written in
1981). Perhaps we can present to you some of
this material about Satan gleaned through the
years. We give all credit to the Lord for that which
is truth. Donald Grey Barnhouse said, “Let
ministers and other workers feel free to quote
from these volumes and pass on these truths... .
All truth belongs to all lovers of the truth.” Donald
Grey Barnhouse, Man’s Ruin (Wheaton, 1952),
Cover Page. It is in this spirit that we bring this
information to you.
1. Leviathan is in reality God’s picture of Satan as
seen through the eyes of the Lord. God pictures
him as a great, red dragon with seven heads, ten
horns and seven crowns upon his heads,
Revelation 12:3, “And there appeared another
wonder in heaven; and behold a great red
dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and
seven crowns upon his heads” (KJB). The beast
out of the sea is seen with seven heads, ten
horns and ten crowns, Revelation 13:1, “And I
stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast
rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and
ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and
upon his heads the name of blasphemy” (KJB).
Since they are obviously not the same, the first is
a reference to Satan and the second is a
reference to the antichrist.
2. Satan controls this “cosmos” and rules as a
king over its children of pride (Job 41:34, “He
beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the
children of pride.”).
3. The kingdoms of this world became Satan’s at
some time in the past and they belong to him.
Not only that, at the temptation of our Savior, we
have the revelation that Satan can give these
kingdoms to whomsoever he pleases, Luke 4:6,
“And the devil said unto him, All this power will I
give thee, and the glory of them: for that is
delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I
give it” (KJB).
4. Although God sees Satan as Leviathan. a
dragon with seven heads, mortal man has
never seen him in this manner. Satan travels
incognito using many disguises. One of his
favorite masquerades is to pose as an “angel of
light”. 2 Corinthians 11:14 declares, “And no
marvel: for Satan himself is trans formed into an
angel of light” (KJB). He does this by some kind
of transformation process, for he is neither an
angel, nor does he bring light.Satan is not an
angel, but a cherub.
5. Satan has his ministers and false apostles who
likewise have the power to transform them
selves into the apostles of Christ, which is a
lie. Note 2 Corinthians 11:13, “For such are false
apostles, deceitful workers, transforming
themselves into the apostles of christ” (KJB).
6. These transformed lying apostles of Satan are
able to “capture” churches and use them for
Satan’s purposes. Note Acts 19:37, “For ye have
brought hither these men, which are neither
robbers of churches. nor yet blasphemers of your
goddess” (KJB).
7. Satan was originally an “anointed cherub.”
Ezekiel 28:14. “Thou art the anointed cherub that
covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon
the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up
and down in the midst of the stones of fire” (KJB).
Somehow as the “anointed one” Satan will be
able to usurp the real Messiah’s place of worship
in the eyes of the world devoid of Christ’s true
church that has been raptured. As christ, Satan
through the Antichrist. will assume the pope’s
position. This will not be difficult since the popes
have always presented themselves to the world
as the Vicars of Christ. (Compare Daniel 8:9-27
with Revelation 17). This clandestine activity will
continue for three and one half years or 42
months.
8. In the meantime, Satan has been removed from
Heaven together with the hosts of fallen
angels known as “devils” in the Bible.
Revelation 12:3, 4, 9 declares, “And there
appeared an other wonder in heaven; arid behold
a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten
horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. And
his tail drew the third part of the stars of f heaven.
and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon
stood before the woman which was ready to be
delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it
was born. And the great dragon was cast out.
that old serpent, called the Devil. and Satan,
which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out
into the earth, and his an gels were cast out with
him” (KJB). The action then begins on earth
when the Antichrist will move from Rome to
the pleasant land (Daniel 8:9, “And out of one of
them came forth a little horn, which waxed
exceeding great, toward the south, and toward
the east, and toward the pleasant land.” (KJB)
where he will join with Satan and the false
prophet in the Tribulation Temple. For 42 months
Satan will achieve his goal of sitting on the throne
of God showing to the world that he is “God”. This
desire was the cause of Lucifer’s fall and has
been his continuous desire through the years.
Isaiah 14:12-14, “How art thou fallen from
heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art
thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken
the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I
will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne
above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the
mount of the congregation, in the sides of the
north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the
clouds; I will be like the most High.” (KJB)..
9: Satan is not only called a king, but a prince. John 14:30. “Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for
the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in
me” (KJB).
10. His power not only includes the power of death,
but the power of life as well. Observe these truths
in Hebrews 2:14 and Revelation 13:15:
“For as much then as the children are
partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself
likewise took part of the same; that through
death he might destroy him that had the
power of death, that is, the devil” (KJB).
“And he had power to give life unto the
image of the beast, that the image of the
beast should both speak, and cause that as
many as would not worship the image of the
beast should be killed” (KJB).
11. Satan’s sphere of activity is always religious.
Therefore, he is known as the “Accuser of the
brethren, Revelation 12:10, “And I heard a loud
voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation,
and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and
the power of his Christ :for the accuser of our
brethren is cast down, which accused them
before our God day and night” (KJB):
12. After Satan’s expulsion from the sea in heaven
(Revelation 12:9, “And the great dragon was cast
out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan,
which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out
into the earth, and his angels were cast out with
him. (KJB), he undoubtedly will descend from
outer space with a grandiose and
ostentatious spectacle that will startle the
world so he can secure his position in
Jerusalem as “god” and world ruler. He may
even now be preparing the minds of mankind
with all the attention given to outer space,
extraterrestrial phenomena, including flying
objects and visions of the “virgin” Mary.
13. Satan is called a “father” by the Lord (John 8:44, “Ye are of your father the devil, and the
lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer
from the beginning, and abode not in the truth,
because there is no truth in him. When he
speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a
liar, and the father of it.”, with his children being
called vipers, Matthew 23:33, “Ye serpents, ye
generation of vipers, how can ye escape the
damnation of hell?” (KJB).
14. Angels do not have wings, although most
people believe that they do. Cherubim do have
wings, Ezekiel 10:8, “And there appeared in the
cherubims the form of a man’s hand under their
wings “ (KJB). Satan, since he is a cherub, does
have wings. Since the religious world attaches
great significance to winged creatures they call
“angels,” it is likely that when Satan comes to
claim his position as “God” that he will assume a
disguise like the body of Christ with the stigmata
and perhaps with his own cherub wings
overwhelm the gullible world of the religious
unsaved.
15. We know that Satan is a master of disguise
having appeared to Eve in the Garden in Eden
as a serpent. The author believes that all the
“gods” of mythology of every heathen land have
really been a form of Satanic disguise. Whether it
was Baal, Bel, Zeus, Jove, Jupiter, Ra, Shiva,
Brahma, Ganesh, or Karttikeya with six heads.
This would also include all the mystical beasts of
mythology such as the satyr, centaur, unicorn,
sphinx or the models for the giants of Easter
Island. All have been Satan’s “gods” incognito.
Psalm 78:48-49 affirms, “He gave up their cattle
also to the hail, and their flocks to hot
thunderbolts. He cast upon them the fierceness
of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble,
by sending evil angels among them” (KJB). In
Psalm 96:4-5 we read, “For the LORD is great,
and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared
above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are
idols: but the LORD made the heavens” (KJB).
Psalm 82:1,6-7 continues to paint the picture
by saying,
“God standeth in the congregation of the mighty
:he judgeth among the gods. I have said, Ye are
gods, and all of you are children of the most High
But ye shall die like men. and fall like one of the
princes” (KJB).
— Martin Luther (1483-1546) was affiliated
with the Romish church before he was saved.
He was very well acquainted with the
breathtaking powers of Satan. After he was
saved and freed from the blinding power of
Satan, he wrote a famous hymn that God’s
people sing to this day to remind us of Satan’s
unequaled powers. He wrote, Clint Bonner, A
Hymn Is Born (Nashville, 1959,) p.4:
“A mighty fortress is our God,
A bulwark never failing;
Our helper He, amid the flood
Of mortal ills prevailing.
For still our ancient foe
Doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and power are great,
And armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.”
