The Army of Demon Locusts
Revelation 9:1-11.
This host of Horrible Monsters, with complex appearance of Locusts,
Horses, Scorpions, Lions, and Humans, came our of the Abyss. Revelation 9:1, 2, 11,
("Bottomless Pit", AV), led by Abaddon, or Apollyon, who was the
Devil, or one of his Angels. This indicates the Hellish Origin of the Woes
to follow. Satan has already been mentioned as Persecuting and Corrupting
the Churches in Smyrna, Pergamum, and Thyatira, Revelation 2:9, 10, 13, 14, 24; and is named as instigator of Rome's Imperial Persecutions of the
Church, Revelation 12:13-16. Of what he is now about to do in the Locust Plague,
we are warned, "Woe, woe, woe", Revelation 8:13. hinting its Frightfulness.
These Demon Locusts are thought, by many commentators, to be a
predictive picture of the Rise and Spread of Mohammedanism; or, of
the Tribulation Period of the Last Days; or, Both.
Mohammedanism
The two hardest blows ever delivered against Christianity have been
Mohammedanism from without and Papal Usurpation from within.
In the Seventh century A D, Mohammedanism swept the Eastern
World like a tidal wave, and Blotted out Christianity in Southwest Asia
and North Africa: the Euphrates and Nile Valleys: the Eastern and
Southern Borders of the Mediterranean: lands of the Bible Story: lands
in which the Bible originated and grew; lands in which God's Revelation
of Himself to Mankind was nurtured and brought to completion:
land in which God formed and trained the nation Israel, for two
thousand years, to pave the way for the coming of Christ: lands hallowed
forever as the scene of Christ's Life and Death and Resurrection
and His Redemptive Work for Mankind: lands which were the Cradle
of Christianity, and which were for 600 years Christian: the Original
Christian World: in these lands, by one fell blow of the Mohammedanword,
CHRISTIANITY WAS BLOTTED OUT, and Mohammedanism was
Established. And they HAVE BEEN MOHAMMEDAN EVER SINCE.
600 years Christian. Now, for 1300 years, Mohammedanism. There are
now more Mohammedans in the world than Protestant Christians.
Mohammed, 570-632 A D, in Mecca, Arabia, declared himself to be
The Prophet of God, and set out, at the head of an army, to propagate
his religion by the Sword. Soon the whole of Arabia was conquered.
Mohammedanism armies, under successive leaders, swept on in their
victorious conquests. Syria fell, 634 A D. Jerusalem, 637 A D. Egypt,
638 A D. Pesria, 640 A D. North Africa, 689 A D.
Asian and African Christianity, thus swept away, the Mohammedanism
Army moved into Europe. Spain fell,711 A. D. Then they headed on into
France, where, at Tours, the Mohammedanism Army was met and defeated,
732 A D, by Charles Martel, grandfather of Charlemagne. That
was one of the Decisive Battles of the Ages. EXCEPT FOR THAT VICTORY,
CHRISTIANITY MIGHT HAVE BEEN ENTIRELY EXTERMINATED FROM THE EARTH.
Here are some of the things that make it look like this Fifth Trumpet
may well refer to Mohammedanism.

- "Locusts", Revelation 9:3.
- The bottomless pit is opened, and locusts come out upon the earth, Verses 2, 3.
- Arabia, preeminently, was a land of Locusts. It was
in Arabia that Mohammedanism originated.
- "Shapes of Locusts like War-Horses, with Scorpion-like Tails, Crowns
like Gold, Faces like Men's Faces, Hair like Women's Hair, Teeth like
Lion's Teeth, Breastplates as of Iron, and Wings that sounded like Chariots
and Horses rushing to War." Revelation 9:7-10.

This is indeed a very good description of Mohammedanism Armies, composed of
Fierce, Relentless Horsemen, famous for their Beards, with
Long Hair like Women's Hair, with Yellow Turbans on their Heads that
looked like Gold, and they had Iron Coats of Armor.
"Smoke from the Abyss", Revelation 9:2,3. It was out of this Smoke that the
Locusts came. The Smoke had Darkened the Sun and the Air. This
may refer to the False Teachings, which had Clouded and Corrupted
the Church of Mohammed's day, in its Worship of Images, Relics, and
Saints. It was the IDOLATRY of a Degenerate and Apostate Church that
gave Mohammed his chance. Destruction of Idols was his slogan.
The Mohammedanism World Early 1900's.
"Hurt Not the Grass, nor any Green thing", Revelation 9:4. Mohammedans
spared Trees, Grass, and All Vegetation, because Mohammed had socommanded;
for, to those living in the treeless wastes of Arabian deserts, Trees and
Vegetation were regarded as the choicest of blessings.
"Torment Men Five Months", Revelation 9:5. 5 months, the normal stay of
Locusts, May to September, is about 150 days; which, on the Year-Day
interpretation, Ezekiel 4:6, would be 150 Years. That was, approximately,
the period, 630 A D to 786 A D, in which Mohammedanism continued its
effort at World Conquest. With Haroun-AI-Raschid, 786-809 A D, at
the height of Mohammedanism Power and Glory, they abandoned the idea of
Conquest, and began to cultivate peaceful relations with other nations,

- The sixth angel sounds, and the four angels bound in the Euphrates are loosed, Verses 13-15.
The Army of 200,000,000 Euphratean Horsemen
Another host of Horrible looking Monsters, of complex appearance of
Men, Horses, Lions, and Serpents, belching Fire, Smoke and Brimstone.
They also may be a predictive picture of Mohammedanism, with a
possible more literal fulfillment in things yet to be,
ARABIANS dominated the Mohammedanism World 400 yrs, 630-1058 A D.
TURKS then took over, and have been in control almost till now.
Some things in this Trumpet seem to point to Turkish Mohammedanism.
"Euphrates", Revelation 9:14, from whence the Sixth Trumpet Armies of Horsemen were
loosed, in 1057 A D a vast horde of Turks, from central Asia,
appeared on the banks of the Euphrates. In their westward march
they replaced the Arabians as rulers of Mohammedanism lands.

The Turks were more cruel and intolerant than the Arabians had
been. Their barbarous treatment of Christians in Palestine led to the
Crusades, 1095-1272 A D, almost 300 years of intermittent War in which
European Christians tried to regain the Holy Land from Mohammedans.

"Out of the Horses' Mouths proceeded Fire, Smoke, Brimstone", Revelation 9:17.
The Eastern Roman Empire, 395-1453 A D, its capital, Constantinople,
had, for centuries, 630-1453 A D, been the bulwark of Europe against
Mohammedanism. But in 1453 A D it fell to the Turks.
It was at the battle of Constantinople, 1453 A D, that Artillery with
GUNPOWDER was First Used; which gave victory to the Turks; the
"Fire, Smoke, and Brimstone", of Revelation 9:17.
Then followed another threat to European Christianity- The victorious
Turks marched on in toward central Europe. But met their
defeat in Vienna, 1683 A D, at the hands of a Polish army under John
Sobieski. As in the Battle of Tours, 732 A D, so here, a second time,
after almost 1000 years, Europe was again saved from Mohammedans.
"Hour, Day, Month, Year", Revelation 9:15, may mean at an exact appointed time.
Or. on the Year-Day interpretation, Ezekiel 4:6, 365 plus 30 plus 1, 396
days, that is 396 years. From 1057 A D, when the Turks crossed the
Euphrates, to the Fall of Constantinople, 1453 A D, was 396 years.

"Third Part of Men Killed", Revelation 9:18. This may refer to the Fall of the
Eastern Roman Empire, 1453 A D, the last remaining "Third" of the
original Roman Empire, at the hands of the Turks. See Note.

"Rest of Mankind Repented Not of their Idolatry, Murder, and Fornication",
Revelation 9:20, 21. Papal Rome kept right on with its Worship of Images,
its Murder of Martyrs, and its Immorality,
- Though much evil is inflicted upon men for their idolatry, Verses 20, 21.
Anti-Christ
The word "Anti-Christ" is nowhere used in the book of Revelation;
which is rather surprising, in view of its very abunDanielt use in books
about Revelation, It occurs in 1 John 2:18, 22; 4:3; and 2 John 7;
where it is said that there were already many Anti-Christs.
Even though some commentators overdo "Anti-Christ", and read it into
passages where it may not have been intended, yet there are many passages
of Scripture, which, without calling it by the name "Anti-Christ",
rather plainly indicate that this Gospel Age is to end in a Terrible
Outbreak of Evil just preceding the Coming of the Lord.
Jesus said that His Coming would be preceded by "Great Tribulation",
Matthew 24:21,29; that it will be a time of "Mourning" for all nations,
Matthew 24:29,30; and men will be "Fainting for Fear and Expectation
of things coming on the world", Luke 21 :24-26; and implied that there
will be little Faith at the time, Luke 18:8.
Daniel spoke of a "Time of Trouble such as never was" to be at the
"Time of the End", Daniel 12:1, 4, 9, 13. In 2 Thessalonians 2:3-10 it is said that
there would rise to power a blasphemous "Man of Sin" who will be
destroyed by the Lord's Coming.
In trying to interpret the prophetic imagery of the book of Revelation, it is
easier to trace its parallel with what has so far transpired
than it is to feel sure of its exact bearing on what is still in the
future.
While the Seven Seals and the Seven Trumpets seem to have portrayed
an exact outline of the Great Features of World History thus far,
a more complete fulfillment may be yet in the making.
May it not be that the Roman Empire, in its furious persecution of
the Church, was a manifestation of Anti-Christ?
And Mohammedanism,
another?
And the Papacy, another?
And, now, the rise to world power,
right before our own eyes, of Atheistic Russian Communism,—may it
it not be the renewed growlings of Anti-Christ?
And, Islam invasion of the world, another?
May it not be that the
Night IS Far Spent, and THE DAY IS At Hand?
