2 And the Lord said unto Satan, (4) From whence comest thou? And ( d ) Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. 3 And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou ( 1c )considered my servant Job, ( 4 ) that there is ( 1d ) none like him in the earth, a ( e ) perfect and ( 4 ) an ( 1e ) upright man, one that ( f ) feareth God, and escheweth evil? and ( 1f ) still he ( h ) holdeth fast ( 1g ) his integrity, ( 1h ) although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him ( 1i ) without cause. 4 ¶ And ( d ) Satan answered ( 1j ) the Lord, and said, ( 1b ) Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life. 5 ( i ) But put forth thine hand now, and touch his ( j ) bone and his flesh, ( 1k ) and he will curse thee to thy face. 6 ¶ ( k ) And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life. 7 So went Satan forth from the presence ( 1l ) of the Lord, and ( 1m ) smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown. 8 And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes. |

( 1m ) Then said ( 1o ) his wife unto him, ( 1p ) Dost thou still retain thine integrity? ( 1p ) ( 1q ) curse God, and die.
But he ( 1r ) said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the ( 1s ) foolish women speaketh. What? ( i ) shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this ( 1s ) did not Job sin with ( 1t ) his lips. |

Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that was ( 1t ) come upon him, they came every one from his own place; ( 1u ) Eliphaz the ( 1v ) Temanite, and Bildad the ( 1w ) Shuhite, and Zophar the ( 1v ) Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to ( 1w ) comfort him.
And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they rent every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven. 13 ¶ So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spake a word unto him: for they saw that his grief was very great. |
