While serving in the U.S. Navy it was my fortune to be staioned at Ismure, Turkey. During that tour of duty Bob Henry and I were able to travel throughout Turkey and visited the sites, as best as could be deturmed at the time, of the sites of the 7 Churches of the Apostle Paul. We also were able to visit Nicea, Troy, Ankaura and made it to the foot of Mt Arat. Prior to this application to place them on a web page I previously did not have the ability to note and identify each photo. I will endeavor here to identify each as best as I can recall. Some of my film has become brittle and unusable. The photos reflect this deterioation. The Background Image Is That of The Blue Mosque ~ Inside and Out, Istanbul, Turkey ~Bob Craig

Our guide suggested that this was the pulpit of the once great church of Philadelphia. It may as well been the front steps entrance to the sanctuary. After thinking about it, it really does look more like a pulpet . . . with the back side being solid. Some how I feel a sort of chill as I realize that the Apostle Paul may have climed those steps to preach! How wonderful history is when backed up with such images as this.

The street near the Blue Mosque. The appearance of the people as seen here in 1958 would appear not to be much different from images we see on television today. I often thought that the lifestyle and conditions of the people of Turkey reminded me a great deal of what our American West would have been in the 19th contrary.
