~ 1965-1969 ~
The
Robert Blair Craig
and Glenda Ann ‘Carraway’
Family
While showing these copies from 8mm movie film and transferring them to digital photographs I errantly dated some of them. I can say for certain that these photos were all taken between 1965/6 through 1969.
We had just returned back from Phoenix Arizona and I found work with Prices Inc., TV & Appliance Sales & Service. We were really fortunate to have found this work so quickly after our return to VA. I was hired as an appliance repairman. During Christmas one year I was temporarily placed driving a van and working the between store messenger. I carried small appliances between the 7 stores and picked up deposits to be taken to the main store and office complex. It was the year that the “12 Days of Christmas” song first came to the radio. One trip to the main office I met the owner Harry Price.
For some reason Mr Price was impressed by me and had me moved from service to sales. This worked out really well and it was not long before he assigned me to my own outlet in Great Bridge, VA. This is when these photos were taken. We lived on Battlefield Blvd, Chesapeake (Great Bridge), VA.
TOPThese photos include my Brother, Kenneth Merle (Kenny), Myrna, Kenna & Bev, and our visit to Colonial Williamsburg, VA. There are also some photos of my mom & dad, Hannah Jemima (FLEMING) & Robert LeRoy Craig. Both mom and dad are gone now and these photos, although quite poor in quality, mean so very much to me. It brings back memories of the wonderful time we had with my brother and his family and the visit as well of Glenda’s folks:

Also shown is my truck. A friend at Prices gave
this old 1949 International Pick-Up Truck that I
worked on in my spare time. It was refurbished and
looked like new. The boys loved that old truck. I
have no idea what we ended up doing with it. But it
was, and likely still is, a treasure. Another item
we refurbished was my old desk. Mom & dad gave it to
me to take back to VA. I had to take it apart piece by
piece to get it into the car and then rebuild it. Jeff
& Roger used it for several years.
These photos of the inside of our house on Battlefield Blvd, Great Bridge, VA wouldn't mean much to
most observers. If one lives on the same house all his or her life all memories are
prescious . . . but difficult to narrow down. However, when a family moves as many
times as ours, each home brings to life special memories. There are many in these old
poor quality photographs. We had invested a lot of cash to completely rebuild the
inside of this structure. The house was old but our family was happy and warm. On many
occasions both Glenda and myself have expressed our regrets that we ever let this old
place go.
The who, what, were & when can often be measured by things happening in history.
When President John Kennedy was killed in Dallas, Texas, I found out about it from
a mine supervisor while working about a mile and a half below ground near Leadville,
Colorado. We left Colorado shortly after that for Phoenix Arizona. When we left

Phoenix to return to Portsmouth Virginia we passed through Alabama and earlier I
showed a photo of a sign showing the Alabamians pride in that George Wallace was
their Governor and running for President of the United States.
In that my dad, Robert LeRoy Craig, is seen in one of these photos taken in
Great Bridge, VA, and he died December 26, 1968 ~ this would indicate that this
visit was during the summer of 1968. This one photo in this series may well be
the last photo I have of him.
