Post High School years 1960-2003 1960-63 - Graduated from ECU Thanksgiving 1963, while nationed mourned JFK. 1964-67 - Began teaching Business Jan 64 at Reidsville Sr. H5. Great teaching experience. Married Asa Benjamin Rogerson (Benny) Aug. 29,1965. Benny had completed Masters at VA Tech and satisfied Uncle Sam with Army Reserves. After marriage, he continued scholarship for Phd in plant Pathology and Plant Physiology, while I taught Business and Social Studies at Dublin HS in nearby Pulaski, VA. After graduation in Dec 1967, Benny accepted a job at NCSU as assistant professor. I turned in a teaching career for a housewife and soon to be a mom. My focus in the years fromn 1968-1986 included raising our two children — Asa now 33 and Anissa —now 35; the typical homemaker, volunteering in children's school, PTA (Children thought I took the parenting role too seriously). Benny and I were founders of a new Presbyterian Church nearby. This area became known as North Raleigh, and has seen tremendous growth, and now has schools and churches. St. Andrews Presbyterian Church by 1999 had 2000 members. I managed to get in a little recreation, playing golf in a ladies league in a nearby club. I also managed to stay in a weekly bible study, one being a bible study fellowship with Anne Graham Lotz (Billy Graham's daughter) as teaching leader.
Benny's job required much travel, providing us with many national, and international travel opportunities. He stayed with Uniroyal for 30 years and the stability gave us many lasting friendships which I still cherish. Our children are living in Raleigh. Asa graduated from NCSU in Civil Engineering and worked at Environmental Investigations in RTP. Started his own company 3 years ago. Married with 3 children: AJ 6, Brody 4, and Skyler 2. Anissa is a psychotherapist in private practice, has 18 mo. son Ethan. With great sadness I write this last note. My husband, Benny, was diagnosed with ALS in 1999. ALS is a devastating disease, crippling all voluntary muscles in the body, usually striking healthy people. Benny died 2 years two months after diagnosis; July 26 2001. We had two wonderful years putting closure on a good life together. These last two years I have spent much time doing things that are very important to me. Included are grandparenting at my pace, continued involvement in church, including Lambs weekly bible study, taking classes and trips at NCSU with the continuing education group called Enclore, Red Hat Society. I go the the condo at Atlantic Beach and see my Dad often. My mom died in 1998. My and Benny's families will always be a part of my life, however, my constant companion is a little white maltese named Lilly. Please don't tell her she's a dog. I might be busy, according to Hugh, but never too busy for any Old Ford classmates.
