The day was beautiful and sunny. We had 54 people eat lunch together. Others came later for a total of 59 people at the reunion.
Jerry Craig called the meeting to order. Guests were welcomed. There were 6 guests brought by the Craig families. Evan Furtney was here for the 1st time and was the youngest at 8 months. Those who have had the best attendance at the reunions, missing one or less times were: Art Craig, Ward and Helen Craig, and Ruth and Tom Redinger. The oldest in attendance today was Art Craig at 91 years. Those who drove the furthest were Eric and Beth Sackett at 330 miles and Ward and Helen Craig at 318 miles. Carol Bishop drove the shortest distance at 1-½ blocks.
Errol Sackett read the minutes. Corrections were made as necessary. Dave Craig motioned to accept the minutes. Ed Rhea seconded it. All approved. Errol Sackett read the treasurer’s report. The history dollars will be used for reprinting of the Family History in the future. Dave Craig made a motion to accept. Hazel Rhea seconded it. All approved. Errol Sackett read current financial report. Donations were collected. Christy Bells counted the donations.
Ward Craig noted messages from family members who couldn’t come. Bob and Glenda Craig were sorry that they couldn’t make it. Fran Ramsey was in the hospital. Ward Craig had asked Eric Sackett to read an email from Matt and Jill Craig from North Ireland. They were looking for information on John Craig. They found information about Sir James Craig and are checking on the connection between John and James Craig. Carol Bishop said that the trip to Ireland for Matt Craig’s Wedding was wonderful. Ruth Redinger said that Angie Redinger and Jennifer Burton said “hi” to everyone. Gladys Adamson said that Brian Adamson bought a house in Blue Springs, Missouri.
The officers for next year were read:
President – Eric Sackett
Vice President – Ralph Craig
Second Vice President – Errol Sackett
Sec./ Treas. – Carolyn Sackett
Recreation – Matt & Ellen Furtney
Food Table Set up – Jim and Barry Craig
Picnic Grounds – Rita Craig
Motion to accept officers was made by Ruth Redinger, and seconded by Gladys Adamson. All Accepted. Motion was made to reserve the same picnic grounds at Getty Heights Park for next year by Pat Craig and seconded by Ward Craig. Carolyn Sackett mentioned that Pat Hellman called and wondered if the invitation to the reunion could be sent out earlier. The reunion has always been the third Saturday of July. Pat Craig suggested that we could mail a notice directly after the reunion in which we plan to change it, if it is ever changed. Rita Craig stated that next year’s reunion would be on July 17. Also Rita Craig was given $60 to reserve the picnic grounds for next year, along with the baseball diamond. Barry Craig suggested that the invitation be sent out by email to those who have email addresses and a hard copy to those who don’t have email. Carolyn Sackett agreed to do that for next year. The email distribution list that contains everyone’s email addresses will be separate from the history and not put on the Internet was suggested by Barry Craig and agreed by others.
Jerry Craig spoke about the need of finances for the West Union Cemetery Association. They were in need of finances to maintain the cemetery in the very good condition that it has been maintained. If it were turned over to the county, then it would not be maintained as well. Jerry Craig said that we have had many relatives buried there. He asked that anyone who wanted to donate money to let him know.
Ed Rhea and Errol Sackett calculated the reunion attendance percentages. Those over 50 % in attendance were:
100% Jim and Sarah Craig
90 % Ron and Carolyn Sackett
80 % Jerry and Pat Craig
75.75 % Art Craig
68.75 % Ward and Helen Craig
60 % Diane Dougan
57.14 % Joe and Gladys Adamson
A motion was made to adjourn by Errol Sackett and seconded by Tom Redinger. All accepted. Games for adults and children alike were lead by Matt and Ellen Furtney. There were children games and volleyball, but not softball because the Little League had reserved the diamond from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.
The day continued to be beautiful. There were 29 people in attendance for the supper meal. The Lord blessed the day.
Respectfully submitted,
Carolyn Sackett
