Dear Robert, I am sending a copy of an e-mail which I sent to you last February.

I really enjoy viewing your web site and congratulate you on your efforts. I see where you talked with Howard Anderson [see Letter Page 1, Letter Page 2, Letter Page 3; enclosures Parkwood Map/ AutoBio Dr. Anderson; Penna State Univ. Letter of Commendaton] and Anna Koontz recently. I was in the Indiana area back on July 2&3 and tried to visit with Howard but he wasn't home. My sister Janice was with me and she got to see Parkwood and the West Union Cemetery [see News Paper article] for the first time.

I am going to send you a few photos and some info on the West Union Church. You may already have some of this material. One photo was taken around 1896 and is a group shot of over 100 people. The other is of the Anderson-Craig reunion in 1938. I obtained these from Anna Koontz. Hopefully you may recognize some ancestors.

I will try to explain and identify some people with a note when I send the packet.

Dear Robert, My name is James Anderson. I live in Erie, PA and am originally from Aliquippa, PA. I have been doing some genealogy for the past 10 years or so. I came upon your web site for the Craig family just the other day and think it is great!! I believe you and I are 4th cousins. You and I are the gr-gr-gr-grandsons of William and Elizabeth Logan Anderson. I have met quite a few new relatives over the past few years. Among them are Dr. Howard B. Anderson and Anna Koontz. Anna has a lot of information on our families and Howard keeps in touch with the Craigs. I guess he went to a recent Craig reunion as he called me and asked if I would be interested in coming down for it. I was unable to attend. I have seen the Anderson home in Parkwood and have seen West Union Cemetery where our ancestors are buried. I usually go to Indiana County each year to research my other family names ( Caldwell, Templeton, Elder, Marshall ). Records of Great Aunt Mary Anderson & Edna Stevenson, Date 1965, Anna Koontz Compiler, RD 2, Saltsburg, PA PREFACE This information is from the Genealogical Center in Londonderry and the Public Records Office in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Records are not complete because many of the records were destroyed by fire when buildings were burned during the Irish uprisings of 1916 and 1922-23. There were many Andersons and Logans who came from the low-lands of Scotland and settled in the northern part of Ireland. It is not certain but it appears that the earliest William Anderson that we have record of was a son of a John Anderson. There were many William and John Andersons in Northern Ireland. The Andersons were mostly Scot-Presbyterian in their faith. At the time of the emigration of William and Elizabeth Logan Anderson, their siblings, and later their parents, William and Mary Haggarty (Hegarty) Anderson, there was religious persecution in Ireland. All people were required to tithe to^the Church of Ireland (similar to Episcopal).Many people objected since they were not of that church. There may have been other reasons for the Andersons and others to come to America but that appears to be the main reason for leaving Ireland at time--1816. Ireland is sub-divided into counties. The Andersons in question were settled in County Derry. Counties were sub-divided into Civil Parishes. The Andersons were from the parish of Aghadowey. The Civil Parishes were sub-divided into town lands. Town lands were like small townships. The Andersons were from Meave Manougher which had a little over 176 acres. About eighty acres of Meave Manougher was farmed by the Andersons. It is not known whether the Andersons owned the land or if they were tenant farmers. Quite often town lands were owned by companies. Some of the companies were very helpful to persecuted people and in many instances paid their passage to America. Meave Manougher is recorded as Merchant Taylor's lands. It is in the southwest of the Parish of Aghadowey on the boundary of the Parish of Errigal and North of Shanlongford. The land rises from southeast to northwest from 350 to 396 feet. There is a hill and "two piles of rocks--" "Meave's Pointed rocks or pinnacles." Other derivations are "Maud's Hilly Land", and "The O'Connor's Plain". There is a little crossroads village called Ringsend., It has a small post office« small store, a few houses, and a Presbyterian Church that dates to 1835. It is an offspring of the Killaig Presbyterian Church. Meave Manougher today is mostly beautiful farmland of rolling hills with broad valleys of fields fenced with stone walls and hedge rows. There are no Andersons living in the Meave Manougher area but there is a George Hegarty. He said the Hegartys came from farther North at Castle Rock. His people have only owned their farm a little over a hundred years. I just opened your e-mail. I believe the photo was taken much earlier than 1909. The young boy in the lower right who is looking to the sky is my grandfather John S. Anderson.

He was born in 1881. My guess is that he appears to be a boy in his early teens in this photo. That would make the date more around ca. 1895 or so. I could be wrong. In the first photo (left-hand portion) there is a man with his hands on the shoulders of the man in front of him.

The two men to the right of him in the photo are (we think- we being Anna Koontz, Dr. Howard Anderson, and myself) Thomas Anderson and his brother Sam Anderson.

Sam is Howard's grandfather and Thomas and Sam are the brothers of my great grandfather James Anderson( 1850-1919).

I have a photo of James, Samuel, and Thomas which was taken ca. 1915. Thomas lost his left arm in a saw mill accident. The mill was owned by James.

If you look closely in the 1895 photo it almost looks as if the taller of the two could be missing his left arm. You will need a good magnifying glass.

I wish I could pick out James in this photo but can't seem to match faces with the photos that I have. Howard has a copy of the large photo and may be of more help in identifying people than I could be.

This is such a wonderful photo....... if only someone had written names.

Mary Agnes Anderson was the last child of John Anderson and Eliza Caldwell Anderson. She never married. I see that you listed her as married to a man named Montgomery. This is incorrect. Mary Agnes Anderson lived on the Anderson homestead in Parkwood with her sister Lizzie and her brother Tom. They were the last Andersons to live in this home. When Tom and Lizzie died in the late 1920's, Mary moved to Blairsville to live with her niece Cora Anderson Sandles and Cora's daughter and grandchildren. Also the photo of Samuel Anderson is not Samuel Ralph Anderson. It is a photo of Samuel Thompson Anderson (5 Jan. 1861- 6 March 1920). Samuel T. Anderson is Dr. Howard Anderson's grandfather. Sam T. is the brother of my great-grandfather James Anderson. The men from the photo (James, Samuel, and Thomas) are Mary Agnes Anderson's brothers. They are the children of John and Eliza Caldwell Anderson.
