. . . tragedy as of this writing - the loss of the Columbia and its crew. It also looks more and more each day that it is a forgone conclusion, that we are predestined, that it is foreordained that we will shortly be at war in Iraq. Many have offered expressions of pain at the loss of our Astronauts last week — and yet, others have great apprehensions about our activities in Iraq.

All these things are but a continuance of News Headlines that supplant our Scriptures. Look up, Brothers & Sisters, our redemption may soon be at hand.

TO STEAL A PHRASE: “WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MAKES . . . !”

February 6, 2003

It hasn’t been more than a few days ago in our “Main Stream Press” that we were being bombarded with an insidious, hour after hour (I have a lot of time to watch the news), day after day, talk show after talk show, how we need to “Take God out of the Pledge,” “Take The Ten Commandments out . . .” allow the homosexuals to get marriage blessings from the state — we were hearing everything there was to hear about how we need to be completely multi cultural in every way. We were being led down the thorny path toward Sodom and Gomarrow — most not even flinching at the pain when the thorns of secularism scratched our moral legs and arms. And it is difficult as a minister of the Gospel to admit — often these that would lead us down these paths to destruction are fellow (and female) ministers.

Yes, I must admit, I’m feeling a bit giddy at it all. One day, as a nation, we were about to re-enter the god-less society we were prior to 911. The secular humanists (liberals) were just about there — better yet, “just about had our nation back in their sweaty palms” . . . when out of the literal blue, Columbia returning from the heavens breaks up over from California to Texas and Louisiana and seven souls were in a moment sacrificed, lost, gone ~ and even as I write this “Short and Long of it All,” I hear on the TV at my elbow, “This is a Nation of Prayer” (President Bush, February 6, 2003, 8:14AM) at the National Prayer Breakfast. How is that for a sentence?

It is outlawed for our children to pray in school while it is honest, forthright and simply, “Just the thing to do,” for our president to talk openly and honestly about God, Prayer and Spirituality as a nation, “One Nation Under God,” to be at prayer. It is OK that our money, our national monuments, our highest offices of government — all, every day, offer expressions of prayer and belief in God, yet it is some how wrong for our children to be exposed to this same God.

At this very moment, as I write, Condoleezza Rice, the National Security Advisor to our president, is speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast, and I am able by the miracle of TV to be there. She is talking about such outlandish themes as Prayer, God, Church and how we are to “embrace the eternal love of God!” (I shall attempt to find a paper copy of her message and post it here) She spoke about how God had a “very long reach” when He selected her to play the piano at a Baptist Church.

Back to the line of thought: Over recent years (and you don’t have to read much of what I write to discover I am conservative and Republican) we have seen those at the top of our party that would stand for good and God be attacked by the sharks of the left. EVERY top leader of our country that pose a place for God in our ranks have been attacked. By attacked, I mean they have been investigated and their lives ripped apart in an effort to find even the smallest morsel of evil . . . when it is found, (and in most humans the weakness shared by us all, original sin) there is some things we’d rather not have everyone know about, they swarm and devour. Well just a morsel is all it takes. When this weakness is found, such as Nute Gingrich and others, the sharks have a feeding frenzy and they rip apart each other trying to get their bit of dirt published about the individual being destroyed. Yes, I mean “DESTROYED!” Nute was destroyed as a leader much as our seven astronauts were destroyed when the great ship, Columbia, disintegrated over Texas. Because of a simple flaw in the life of a human being the then “Speaker of the House” was destroyed — so much like a simple flaw in the shuttle system caused the demise of those brave souls that were leading our country to the vast horizons in space.

Another individual, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, is speaking at the Prayer Breakfast. What an American tragedy she is! Now how much better can I describe multi-culturealism than in a word? “Pelosi. ” Robinhood. She would destroy everything there is that is good in our country in any way she can. She is a shark and will attack at the slightest breaking of blood. We saw at the beginning of this Congressional Year the demise of another and because he wasn’t highly regarded in any ranks of government, because he simply wasn’t popular, there wasn’t even a slightest struggle to defend him in any way — Senator and speaker of the house, the Senator from Mississippi –, Trent Lot. — the sharks circled and attacked — and little was done to save him. Why? It was because the endeavor would have been useless and a waste of time. After all, he was on the hit-list of the national press and was to be taken down. They searched for years for a weakness and when they found it — he was gone. One just has to wonder, in a day when public crucifixions are so popular, how it is that George W. Bush, U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, Condoles Rice — countless others of the Bush Administration, folk that believe in God, have been able to survive in our political ocean of prehistoric sharks? (You just have to get the text of this now “on-going” prayer breakfast!)

Can you honestly say that, if there was anything to find in George W. Bush’s background that even hinted of wrong, he wouldn’t be destroyed? It wouldn’t matter what or how insignificant it was, HE WOULD BE DESTROYED! On the spot, at the very moment! Destroyed. Yet, we had that poor excuse of a human being, Bill Clinton, and he went on, and on, and on, and on . . . . Well, thank God, even that passed. (For the moment). We have a general on the field of battle, right now, this very day — the sharks have swarmed and they are attacking him, and the distraction this may cause places our nation at risk. Just days before what could be the beginning of World War 3, they, the sharks, want to bring General Tommy Franks down! For what? Did he cheat on his wife? No, his wife, close at his side, was reportedly (by the sharks) present in some classified meeting and may, MAY, have traveled with her husband, un-reimbursed expenses by him, and for that we WANT TO BRING HIM DOWN! My mind wonders back to Bill Clinton? The sharks did not think there was anything there to be concerned about. He only desecrated the oval office with his personal immoral activities but gave away secrets to China that have yet to come back and bite us. This paragraph could be expanded to make a book, but I won’t go there.

I am sure those that are far better than I will try and capture this thought in words and publish a column about it all so I shall bring this to a close and look to see if I can find one.

The short and long of it all here is: God seems to be acquiring bits and pieces of our countries attention from time to time. What may be in our future that will allow God to have our FULL attention?
